John Wayne Nagy born October 12, 1944 at home in the Westfield Community of Houston, TX to John Nagy. Jr. and his wife Alice Elizabeth Leitner Nagy, died Friday November 6, 2020 at the age of 76.

He was baptized by Pastor E.H. Sanders on December 31, 1944 and his Godparents were Rudolph Leitner and Hazel Leitner. John Wayne was confirmed by Reverend E.H. Sanders on March 30, 1958 at St. Matthews Lutheran Church Westfield, TX.

He attended grade school at Spring ISD and graduated from Carl Wunsche Sr. High School 1963. John Wayne graduated from the University of Houston June 3, 1967.

He worked at home with his parents growing tomatoes, squash, cucumbers, and other vegetables for the Houston farmers Market on Airline Drive in Houston, TX. After high school, John Wayne worked as a mechanic at Marek Bros and later worked at Cameron Iron Works to help make money for his tuition at U of H. Then he continued to work with his parents on the farm. John Wayne met Alma Nicol and had their first date February 1966. They were married at the E & R church or United Church of Christ in spring of January 27, 1968.

Leaving the FM 1960 area, John Wayne moved to Hempstead, TX, with his family and his parents to become ranchers working with cattle, hay, etc. Both family groups joined Trinity Lutheran Church in Hempstead in 1976. John Wayne was Council President for many terms, worked with designing the additions to the church, worked as youth group leader and with the maintenance of the church building. He also helped with the 4H barbeques and Boy Scouts.

He was an avid hunter and initiated the development of wildlife management for his and surrounding ranches in Mason, TX. In March of 2020, John Wayne and Alma moved to Uvalde, TX.

John Wayne was a Jack of all trades. He was a very talented man who learned from his parents and grandparents. During his lifetime he was very proficient with machinery such as tractors and bailers. He worked on all kinds of machinery; his motto was: if all else failed, follow the directions, he would much rather do things his own way. John Wayne designed and constructed several homes in the Hempstead and Waller area with Leroy Peters and Alan Stepan. He baled and sold hay and did all sorts of ranching work: branding, dehorning, etc.

Survivors include: wife of 52 years, Alma Nicol Nagy: son and wife Carl Wayne and Kanda: daughter and husband Elizabeth and Darryl Karcher: grandsons Cameron and wife Micayla Stevens, Preston Stevens, Maverick Stevens: granddaughters Kaitlyn Karcher, Kyndall Karcher, Lexi Stevens and Kymber Nagy: brother and wife Richard Nagy Sr. and Winonah Nagy: sister Marlene Nagy Mccue: nephews Chad and wife Jemma Mccue, Richard Nagy Jr, Keith and wife Anna Mccue: niece Winona Nagy Martinez: great nephew Gabriel Martinez: and numerous other family and friends.
