John R Murphey

May 14, 1935 to May 28, 2026

A beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather. His words of wisdom and his natural intuition to life was our Northstar that guided and shaped our family.

Pops was a good man with a lifetime of stories. In his early years, his stories of missing school to pick cotton in the fields, to his high school days when they burned the Tuloso Midway letter into the midfield of Calallen football field. Well, nobody went to jail, but there was a lot of replanting grass. His stories of racing cars with Duntov ¾ race cams and cut heads to singing in a country band in the early 60's. His band with my Uncle Pawpaw Boldy once opened for Freddy Fender in Corpus Christy.

Pops did many things to support his family; he owned a laundry service business and work as a police officer for the Alice Police Department. He managed a forklift company before starting his own Jewelry Store. After retiring, Pops worked for Mr. Peach at Peach Appliances.

Pops loved spending time with his family, working on hotrods and teaching us boys how to work on cars. He also loved riding motorcycles until the age of 72 when he had to hang up his helmet.

His other love was his brothers at the Masonic Lodge Spring No. 1174. Pop worked his way to a Master Mason. He took great pride in his Lodge and all his fellow Masons. He truly believed in the work they did, helping the community, helping other members, and providing guidance to the younger Masons. As he got older and unable to enjoy his hobbies, those joys were replaced by the joys of telling his stories to his grandkids. We all lessoned to his stories and think, that man lived a quality life. Pops/Pawpaw, from all of us, I can say, you will be missed to the moon and back!!! WE LOVE YOU!! Your family
