Obituary

John Paul Murdock, Jr., 76 of Magnolia, Texas went to be with his Lord and savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, May 17, 2018.  He is survived by his wife of 54 years Lora Sue ; son John P. Murdock, III and his wife Kathy; son Steven Ray Murdock and his wife Andrea; 8 Grandchildren and 1 Great-Granddaughter.

He was born on December 11, 1941 in Grand Saline, Texas, the only child of John Paul Murdock and Amma Frances Tucker.

Early in his youth the family moved to Houston, Texas where John attended school and graduated from Jefferson Davis High School in 1960.  He new he wanted to follow in his father's footsteps and become a Houston Police Officer but you had to be 21 years old so he enlisted in the US Army.  After boot camp, he served in Germany for 3 years achieving the rank of Sergeant.

Honorably discharged in 1963, he returned home to Houston and enrolled in the Houston Police Academy, graduating in February of 1964.  Throughout his career, he was assigned to the Central Division where he worked in the Crime Analysis Division, Community Relations Division, and the Special Operations Division.  He retired on March 21, 1988 with 25 years of protecting and serving the people of Houston, Texas.

Throughout his life John enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing.  Upon retirement in 1988, he and Lora spent the next 19 years traveling the United States and Canada where they enjoyed 4-wheeling and exploring off-road trails.
