John Martin Mego, age 78, beloved husband of Roberta (Bobbie) Mego, née Wittner; loving father of John Michael and Robin Lynch (Sean); cherished grandfather of Brielle, Colin, Reagan and Brennan; dear brother of Kate Mego and uncle to her children Paul Sgontz and Julie Phanthavong; caring friend of so many.
He was born on the south side of Chicago to Julia and John Mego. There he graduated from St. Rita's high school, going on to the University of Illinois where he received his degree in engineering and then on to the University of Chicago where he. earned an MBA. His 50-year career in the electrical industry spanned Chicago, South Carolina, Atlanta and finally Houston where he left his mark for over 40 years.
No one ever had more fun than John. Whether hunting, fishing, golfing ,dining, playing with grandchildren, traveling or chatting, he brought smiles and laughter to all around him. To know him is to love him. He was a proud member of AA for 42 years and sponsored many on their journey to sobriety. This included volunteer work at Camp Hope where he reached out and encouraged many generations of veterans.
A friend wrote: "I don't think I've ever met anyone who reveled in talking about his family like John did. He joyfully loved and adored his family like no one else."
Let us celebrate a life well-lived, admiring his kindness, remembering he laughed often and loved much and left the world a better place.
