John Matejka was born in St Louis Missouri and grew up in Bellville Illinois.
John Graduated from Althoff High School in 1966. John was the High School Correspondent for the High School newspaper. John attended Southern Illinois University earning a Bachelor of Science degree in 1970, and a Master of Business Administration in 1976. He followed up with a Juris Doctor degree from Southwestern University in Los Angeles California in 1978. John passed the California, Texas and Florida bar exams and was a member of the Texas bar association. John moved to Houston in 1979 and went on to become a CPA in 1983, adding Master of Science in Accounting degree in 1986 from University of Houston.
John had a long career working for the Internal Revenue Service. John started as an agent, then became an Appeals Officer before finally retiring from the tax-exempt group.
John developed an interest in cars as a teenager, that interest grew and continued for the rest of his life, eventually collecting approximately 30 antique cars. John liked to organize and go on car tours with his friends and family members. John was a member of many car clubs in the Houston area. John had a passion for the classics and his vehicles won awards numerous years at the Houston Auto Rama as well as other local car shows. John would lend his cars for friend's weddings and local community parades.
John liked to go on Steamboat River Cruises and traveled the Mississippi River many times with his mom and companion Marcia Swift.
John was a patron of local Houston Theater Companies and had season tickets to The University of Houston Theater company, Stages among others for many years.
John will be remembered for his generosity, kind heart, eclectic sense of humor. John was always willing to help a friend in need and will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
John was preceded in Death by his Parents John C Matejka Sr, Eleanor Matejka (Ellebrecht) and his Sister Shirley Matejka.
John is survived by first cousins Michael Matejka, Christine Yoder, Dolores Lane, Mary Ellen Behrmann, Theresa Mendez, Nancy Daake, Kathleen Wiegard and extended family members.
We would like to thank the Leadership of Touching Hearts at Home and their wonderful team of caregivers for their dedication and compassion in caring for him the last years of his life.
