It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Augustine Lara, Jr., 69, of Houston TX. He was born on August 26, 1955, in Houston, TX to the late John Augustine Lara Sr. and Cruz Sanchez Lara. He passed away peacefully at home on December 28, 2024.

John, a native-born Texan, had a deep love for the great outdoors and as an avid hunter, he cherished his time in the Texas Hill Country. Known for his remarkable handiness, John, could fix just about anything, and his resourcefulness and practical skills were admired and sought out by many…. ok, all of us.

His love for good food was unmatched, and he never missed an opportunity to savor Texas BBQ, sizzling fajitas, and, above all, a perfectly made margarita (don't forget the salt). Meals shared with family and friends were some of his most treasured memories.

John dedicated over 35 years of his life to the United States Postal Service. Beyond his role as a Letter Carrier, he served as a union steward, advocating for his fellow carriers with dedication and integrity.

He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, kindness, and a deep love for his family. Though he may no longer walk among us, his spirit will live on in the stories shared, the lessons taught, and the love he gave so freely.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Lara; son, Jason Phillips and wife Dawn; daughter, Jenny Bayer and husband Brent; grandchildren: Lila Orr Rimer, Tucker Bayer, Ellie Bayer, Cooper Phillips, Niko Orr De la Garza; daughter at heart, Jenifer Orr; sisters Liz Rivera and Magdalena Lara Gonzales. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Rest easy, John. Your legacy will forever be etched in our hearts.
