John J. Jones, (85), of Houston, Texas, passed away on January 7th, 2024, surrounded by family.

John was born to John Childress and Mary Jones, on June 20th, 1938 in San Antonio, Texas. After graduating from Breckenridge High School, John enlisted in the United States Navy.  His four year Navy career took him to San Diego, California, Whidbey Island, Washington, and Memphis, Tennessee, and Japan.  John was  an electronics technician on the VP-50 aircraft.  John married Christine M. Ebrom (Cieslak) in 1960 in San Antonio, and their first child was born in Japan.  After the Navy, John worked at Southwest Research Institute in San Antonio, Texas, where he and Christine added three more children to their family.

While raising their young family, John accepted a job in oil and gas in Houston, Texas in 1975 and the family relocated in 1976.

John was a devoted, loving father and husband, an avid sports fan, and a passionate tennis player.  He coached his children in softball, baseball, and tennis.  When not playing sports, he was watching sports, certainly one of his favorite pastimes.  He was mechanically minded and had a do-it-yourself attitude.  He could fix most things, albeit not as quickly as his family would have liked.

John married his second wife, Linda Winkler (Jones) in 1990.  Linda had two children of her own from her first marriage.  Linda was a dedicated wife and caregiver to John, especially in his final years as he battled Alzheimers.

John and Linda lived in Magnolia, Texas, where they became part of the community and built strong friendships as members of St. Matthias parish. John was an active member in the Knights of Columbus and a Eucharistic minister.   Upon retiring in 2012, as quality control manager from DrilQuip, John and Linda enjoyed running their business "Simply Nuts" in Fredericksburg, Texas where John thrived on interacting with many friends and acquaintances he made along the way.   And their dog Chili was always their constant companion. They also enjoyed scheduling mystery trips each year for each other, that included driving trips to all corners of the U.S. always listening to country music.

John is survived by his wife, Linda Jones, sister Ruth Miller of Tomball, Texas, daughter Beverly Canales (Mike) of New Braunfels, Texas, son John W. Jones (Charles) of Austin, Texas, daughter Cindy Dahl (Bill) of Spring, Texas, son Mark Jones (Caldwell) of Houston, Texas, Steve Winkler (Carol) of Dallas, Texas, and Sherrie O'Brien (Pat) of Cypress, Texas as well as granddaughters Emily and Katie Canales and Abbey O'Brien.    The family would like to thank The Heritage Memory Care Team and Devotion Hospice.  And a special thank you to Helen Advinca for her devotion and loving care for John.

The visitation will be at Klein Funeral Home, 1400 W. Main, Tomball, Texas, 77375 on Thursday, January 11, 2024 from 5 pm - 7 pm, with a rosary from 7 - 8 pm and funeral services will be held at St. Matthias Catholic Church, 302 Magnolia Blvd., Magnolia, Texas 77355 at 12 pm on Friday, January 12, 2024.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in John's name to the Alzheimer's Association .
