John Hopper was a man who claimed to know a little bit about a lot of things and very little about any one specific thing. To an extent, that statement is true. He was a son, a husband, a father. He was a scholar, an intellect, a philanthropist, a teacher, a mentor, a historian, a story teller, a comedian, a music expert, even a philosopher in his own right. But he was wrong about one thing, he knew a lot about taking care of people. He had a heart that bent for God and longed to help the poor, lost, broken, needy and downtrodden. But he also fought to further uplift those with plenty. He loved his family fiercely and gave his children the world. John Hopper was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on April 16th,1965 to Jack and Concepcion Hopper. He grew up in El Paso, Texas where he cultivated a love for literature, music, debate, drama, servant leadership and numbers. He attended the University of Texas at El Paso and graduated with a Bachelors degree in Business and Accounting. Throughout his college years he served as a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon and even owned a comic book store with three of his best friends. In 1989 he began his career with El Paso Corporation and grew with the company for 23 years and served as  Vice President and Treasurer for ten years. In 2012 he joined Melior Innovations as their Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. He married his wife Dorothy on New Years Eve 1992, gaining two children Misty and Holly, they had their daughter Tiffany in 1993. In 1996 they moved to Houston and through the years they gained more than 30 international sons and daughters from all over the world. In 2008 he gained two more children when they adopted Shaelyn and Javon Hopper. Over the years John donated to countless charities. He was the President of Crisis Intervention of Houston, faithfully distributed God's word and served as the Secretary and Treasurer of Gideon's International-Houston North Camp and was a board member for Children At Risk for many years. John is survived by his wife, Dorothy Boyce-Hopper; his children Tiffany Hopper, Holly Lynn Reynolds, April Michelle Boyce, Shaelyn Rene Hopper and Javon Hopper; his parents John T. Hopper and Concepcion Amador y Trias-Hopper; and his granddaughter Gwendolyn Marie Hopper-Danz. John Hopper was a loving, honest, gracious, humble man of virtue and will forever be missed by his loved ones. But he leaves us with a legacy and has taught those who knew him to live with joy, bless others, laugh, be passionate about the things you believe in, be gracious and love yourself, love others and love God unconditionally just as he has done for all of us . A Memorial Service will be held 1pm Friday, June 3, 2016 at Champion Forest Baptist Church.
