John Hooks, 81 of Houston, died Saturday, June 23, 2016. John was born on February 6, 1935, in Sour Lake, Texas to John James Hooks and Kathryn Maxfield Hooks. He was a proud graduate of Texas A & M University, Class of 1955. He served in the United States Army and had a 37-year career with Texaco, working in Port Arthur and Convent, Louisiana, before settling in Houston. A lifelong golfer, upon his retirement in 1993, he took up his hobby as a "second career" and could often be found chasing the little white ball around the course. Upon the birth of his first grandchild in 2001, he took on the role of doting grandfather and willing participant in carpools, museum trips, family vacations, Christmas programs and sporting events. Preceded in death by his parents and his sister Mary Ainsworth, John is survived by his wife Sherilyn Weghorst Hooks, daughter DeeDee Marsh and husband Wallis, and the true lights of his life, grandson John "Jack" Marsh and granddaughter Julia Marsh, all of Houston.
