John Kenneth Homrighausen, man of God, thinker, doer, fighter and cigar
aficionado, passed away on Friday, December 25th, 2020.
John loved talking to passing strangers from his porch, Texas, quality
bourbon, the act of writing a good letter, rainy nights, the irish exit, Blazing
Saddles, and Texas (he really liked Texas). Not necessarily in that order. He
hated the HOA and the sound of people chewing their food. Not necessarily
in that order. He was unconventional to the bone, lived life on his own
terms and weathered his storms in his own way. John's individualism,
paired with a magnetic charisma and wicked-sharp wit, drew the
admiration and respect of all who had the fortune of crossing his path. His
creativity, brutal honesty and sheer tenacity gave him an immediately
perceptible depth. He had a way of making you feel valuable - he was
genuinely interested in the lives and purposes of his friends and did
everything he could help them on their paths. To John, contributing
positively and meaningfully towards the growth of a friend or family
member was one of life's greatest luxuries, and he was damn good at it, too.
He was a force of nature, an indomitable dynamo of a man who couldn't
help but leave a wake of laughter, thoughtfulness, and defiance everywhere
he went. It would be impossible to distill all of his virtues into such few
words - he was a prince and a fighter of the highest regard. You've never
met another man quite like John Kenneth Homrighausen.
When John took off for that great big porch in the sky he left behind his
loving wife, Nicole, and his three sons John Gavin, Connor, and Kyle. If you
listen closely you can still hear him doting on his wife and bragging about
his boys. He saw their accomplishments as his own and will survive through
them in perpetuity. He truly lived for his family.
John was born on June 20th, 1969. This day is henceforth to be known as
John day, and he'd like nothing more than for you to celebrate his memory
by engaging in an unsolicited act of kindness or going camping or just
appreciating the rain and trees a little extra. John unfortunately perished at
the young age of 51 in his attempt to rescue malnourished inner city
children from a collapsing building. Or something like that. We all know
how he liked to tell stories.
