John (Johnny) Henry Wells III, born on October 31, 1939, went to be with our Lord on July 29, 2023, at the age of 83 after battling Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Johnny was born to John and Jewel Wells in Beeville, Texas. His memory will be cherished by his wife of 33 years, Colleen Wells, daughter Mikki (Lee) Harris, son Darren (Aiden) Wells, grandchildren Jordan Harris, Donovan (McKenzie) Harris, and great-grandson Rowen Harris, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Laura and Tim Woodall, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Johnny was raised in San Antonio, Texas, graduating from Burbank High School. He attended Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Texas, on a baseball scholarship earning a Bachelor of Science in Education degree and a Master of Education degree. Some of Johnny's favorite memories and stories were from his years of pitching for the Sul Ross Lobos.

He began his 37-year career in education at North East ISD in San Antonio, Texas. He was a teacher, Administrative Assistant at Roosevelt High School, Coordinator of Driver Education, Health, PE and Safety, Director of School Transportation and Pupil Safety, Principal of Wilshire Elementary School, Principal of Eisenhower Middle School, Principal of Roosevelt High School and Associate Superintendent of Operations. The remainder of his career was spent at Alief ISD in Houston, Texas. He was the Assistant Superintendent of Support Services and Interim Superintendent. Johnny enjoyed his career choice, and in his decision making, he always considered what was best for the children.

Johnny enjoyed life to the fullest. He was kind, had a compassionate heart, enjoyed telling and laughing at his own stories, and was happiest when he was with his family. He was especially thrilled to meet and spend time with his new great-grandson Rowen (and his parents) in May of this year. It was love at first sight, and not a day went by that he didn't ask how Rowen was doing.

Traveling was another activity Johnny loved. He and Colleen enjoyed a cruise down the Rhine River in Europe to wonderful ports in the Netherlands, Germany and France. They also enjoyed a cruise through Alaska's inside passage and traveled by train to see Mount Denali. On a local level, Rockport was always his favorite getaway as he could enjoy fishing, eating fresh shrimp at his favorite restaurants or just sitting on the back porch watching the water and perhaps having an adult beverage or two!

He loved their two miniature dachshunds, Frauline and Schatzie, affectionately referred to as "the girls" as they brought much joy and love into the Wells home for 17 years. He had a very soft heart for abandoned or abused animals and was a generous supporter of our local Houston SPCA.

One of Johnny's personal accomplishments was to complete a book titled A Collection of Life Stories. The collection of stories he penned was to provide his family and generations to come with an insight to his beginnings, his feelings, some interesting life experiences, crazy things he did, friends he made and knowing that he was at peace with his life.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2023, at 10:00 am at St. Aidan's Episcopal Church, 13131 Fry Road, Cypress, Texas 77433 with the Reverend Les Carpenter officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of Johnny may be made to your favorite charity or church.

There will be a blood drive In Memory of Johnny Wells held at St. Aidan's Episcopal Church on Sunday, September 3, 2023. This is a great opportunity to help replenish the supply of blood that was provided to Johnny through his illness.
