John W. Hasson

John W. Hasson, 77, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2024. He leaves behind his three children, Derek Hasson and wife Meghan of Tomball, TX; Rachael Buckley and husband Bill of Fairfax, VA; Meredith Benson and husband David of West Springfield, VA; and 6 grandchildren, John, Brady, Jay, Ethan, Reagan, and Jane. John was preceded in death by his loving wife, Jane (Pettee) Hasson. Jane and John spent 45 wonderful years together raising their family.

John was born in Arlington, MA, the son of the late Olive and John E. Hasson. A graduate of Harrison College Preparatory School in Barbados, John began college at Boston University, but after two years, heard his calling and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he served for four years. When he returned to Boston University to finish his degree, John met his soon-to-be wife Jane while working in the school's Biology Department. Three weeks later, the two were engaged and went on to build their life and raise their family in Northborough, MA, where John remained until moving to Tomball, TX after the passing of his wife.

John was a man of many hobbies and passions over the years. A surfer, an airman, a hockey coach, a sailor, a writer, a rifleman, and an advocate for the Air Force and its veterans. He spent much of the 80's and 90's sailing his yacht, Valkyrie, around Newport, RI. Later, he became involved in competitive riflery. John then went back to his Air Force roots and became an active member of the Air Force Association, volunteering and eventually serving as the President of the New England Chapter. Through it all, John never forgot his favorite place, Barbados, where he spent time while growing up and attending boarding school. John and Jane had the opportunity to spend a lot of quality time on the island in their last ten years.
