Preceded in death by sister-Mary Hanses Murai (94) of Groton, CT in 2021 and brother Jermone M. Hanses (57) of Minneapolis, MN in 1988 and parents Florence and Sylvester Hanses of Minneapolis, MN.

Survived by nephew Koh Murai of Yamhill, OR.

After early education, John entered into the Christian Brothers Order of teaching in April of 1948. His artistic abilities were developed and utilized by the order. As he continued his education with the order he served as choirmaster and organist and playing the bass in the band. During his final (senior) year his interests and skills in Photography and astronomy bloomed. His early teaching assignments were in Kansas City and Chicago at De La Salle school sites. During the early 60's attacks and fire bombings on his high school in Chicago by the Black Panthers convinced John to take his education and astronomy skills on the road away from the big cities.

For many decades he toured the Renaissance Festival circuits around the country with his inflatable planetarium where he educated learners of all ages on the skies and stars. He was easily noticed at the fairs by his school bus, which was decorated to show the astronomy interests that the bus carried along with him. His artistic and calligraphic skills helped produce the scroll certificated for graduates of his planetarium classes. In his later years he settled in Plantersville, TX hear the local Ren Faire site where he finished his career prior to retirement.

His Celestial Circus was refined over several decades of operation. He was a friend to all and in the off seasons while living in Plantersville, he was the ice-skating Santa Claus at the Galleria in Houston for many years. His love of skating and natural Santa looks were a big hit with the young shoppers and children.
