In the early morning hours of Saturday, August 10, 2019, John Hampton passed away in his home. His caring and loving wife, Abby Hampton, was beside him the entire time, as she had been throughout their life together.

John Ray Hampton was born on November 28, 1947, in Amarillo, TX to J.E. and LaVerne Hampton. The middle of three children, John was poised for success and adventure from his earliest days. Riding on his bike as a boy from his home in Amarillo to Palo Duro Canyon, he did not let the 25-mile downhill journey deter him, nor the 25-mile return trek.

After graduating from Tascosa High School in 1966 and Rice University with a degree in economics in 1970, John went to work for a division of Schlumberger, and in that same year, married the love of his life, Abby, on New Year's Eve in her hometown of Maljamar, NM.

Together they lived in Beirut, London and then with their two daughters Lauren and Bethany in Singapore, before settling down in Houston, TX.

John spent most of his career in the oil industry before staring his own company, Filtration Technology Corporation in 1987. The company has grown from a tiny two-man operation in a garage to be a globally recognized company in the industry.

His guiding business principle, take care of your people, was how he lived his life as evidenced by the many loving friends and family who he made his life's focus and priority. His house was the back drop to fierce battles of darts, cards, swimming competitions, and even leg jumping and can sitting. John was usually victorious.

His friends and family could count on John and Abby opening their home to local and out of town guests on many occasions; most famously their annual Fourth of July celebration.

John's enthusiasm, zeal and charisma will be missed by all those who knew him and loved him. He is survived by his wife Abby, daughter Lauren and husband Tyler Johnson, daughter Bethany and husband Kyle Scott, elder brother Bob Hampton and wife Mary, younger sister JoAnn Henning and husband David, as well as five grandchildren and countless extended family, friends, employees and business partners whose lives he enriched and brought enjoyment and excitement to.

There will be an open memorial service August 15, 2019 at 10:00am at Champion Forest Baptist Church Chapel, 15555 Stuebner Airline Dr. Houston, TX 77069.
