John Alan Griffin
September 17, 1950 – February 12, 2025

John Alan Griffin, 74, of Spring, Texas, passed away on February 12, 2025, surrounded by his family. Born in Shreveport, Louisiana, on September 17, 1950, he was the son of Herbert Augustus Griffin and Minerva Pratts Griffin and brother to Jim Griffin.

John lived a vibrant and accomplished life, marked by a deep love for his family, a commitment to his work, and a strong belief in service to others. After graduating from Byrd High School in Shreveport, he earned a degree in Engineering from Louisiana State University in 1973 and later received an MBA from the University of Houston in 1985.

Over a 45-year career in the energy industry, John held various roles at Continental Pipeline (a part of Conoco), Hess Oil, The Superior Oil Company, Midcon Pipeline Company, and Occidental Petroleum. He later brought his experience and insight to the field of executive recruiting, working with Spencer Stuart and Heidrick & Struggles.

John was an active member of his community and believed strongly in giving back. He served on the boards of the Houston Symphony Corporate Board, Amigos de las Americas, the University of Houston Business School, and the Points of Light Foundation. He also co-chaired a major fundraiser for the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation, helping provide educational opportunities for the children of U.S. Marines.
He is survived by his loving wife, Anita Griffin; his sons, John (Jacqueline) Griffin and Jake (Amanda) Griffin; and his grandchildren, Jack, Annie, and Brooks, who were the light of his life.

John had a passion for the outdoors and adventure. He enjoyed golf, hunting, skiing, traveling, and most of all, spending time with family. He created countless memories through holidays, family trips, and everyday moments that will be cherished forever.

John will be remembered for his dedication, generosity, and the love he gave so freely to those around him. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished, the work he believed in, and the many lives he touched along the way.
