John F. Greene, Jr., "Johnny", age 70, passed away at Vitas Hospice in The Woodlands, TX on December 1, 2018 after an unexpected illness.  John fought a courageous 15-year battle with Parkinson 's disease.

John was born on October 3, 1948 in Jasper, Alabama to John F. Greene, Sr. and Eva Musgrove Greene.  He graduated from Cordova High school in Alabama.  He continued his education at Sam Houston University in Huntsville, Texas earning a degree in Social Work.

John moved to Houston from Florence, Alabama with his wife Ann in 1981. He worked for Brown and Root for 22 years.  He also worked for O'Reilly Auto Parts for 11 years and retired in 2014.

As a teenager, John developed a great love for aviation.  He obtained his private pilot license in 1991.  John shared his aviation passion by mentoring others.  John enjoyed many other activities, including watching University of Alabama Football (Roll Tide!) and bicycling fundraisers – he participated in both the Alamo Challenge (Houston to San Antonio) and the MS150 (Houston to Austin) several times, raising funds for the American Lung Association and the Multiple Sclerosis Society. John enjoyed volunteering at The Lighthouse for the Blind where he rode a tandem bike with the visually impaired.  John loved paying it forward and helped many, staying anonymous whenever possible.

John also had a lifelong love of animals, especially animals that were rescued from difficult circumstances.  During his lifetime, he and Ann had many pets.  He especially cherished two dogs, Brandi and Poppi, both adopted rescues.

John is survived by his wife Ann T. Greene of 40 years.

Also surviving: sister Betty Greene Wright of Jasper, AL; niece Dean Wright Anastasi (Bob) of Atlanta, GA; Haig Wright II (Robin) of Jasper, Alabama; seven great-nieces and great-nephews - Pete, Caroline & Deana Anastasi and Haig III, Oliver, Molly & Amy Wright; sister-in-law Mary Morris (Louis) of Jackson, MS; niece Stephanie Forman (Kevin) of Houston, TX.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on January 5, 2019 at 11:00am at Christ Church United Methodist, 6363 Research Forest Dr, The Woodlands, TX 77381, with a lunch reception following the service.
