John Patrick Dunn passed away and reunited with his wife Connie on the morning of Wednesday, September 18th, 2024 in Magnolia, Texas at the age of 65.

John will be remembered for his dedication and love of his family, high standard of excellence at work and with his hobbies, commitment to friends, and his unique perspectives, observations and insights of life.

John was born March 19, 1959, in Columbus, Ohio to F. Patrick Dunn and Betty Lee Heidbreder Dunn. He was the oldest of three sons, with brothers Mark and Brian. As they grew up, the family moved across the country to New Orleans, Midland, and Houston. During his childhood and adolescence, John enjoyed baseball, tinkering on cars and motorcycles, and being a typical crafty older brother. He graduated from Humble High School in 1977 and after a year of college, John started his career in machining by working at several shops in the Houston area. Soon thereafter, he started Vortex Precision Machining Services, a machine shop that specialized in providing precision machined components for the oil and gas industry.

In 1987, John met his future wife, Connie Schmidt, who was the sister of one of his shooting friends, Fred "Bubba". They married in 1989 and established their home in The Woodlands, Texas. John and Connie had their utmost dream of a family fulfilled when they were blessed with their first and only son, Christopher, in 1997. Outside of running Vortex, John enjoyed traveling the country with his family, indulging in good food and drink accompanied by a fine cigar, participating in high level competitive shooting with the IHMSA organization, working on his latest project in his garage, attending and supporting Christopher's baseball games, and watching the Astros and Oilers, capturing each of the memories with his camera.

John retired and closed Vortex in 2016, after almost 30 years of running a successful business in a cyclical and competitive sector all while treating employees with a high degree of fairness and respect. Shortly thereafter, Connie was diagnosed with dementia. John dedicated all of his efforts to care for and treasure time with her. In late 2022, John's health began to decline, a decline that was accelerated in October of 2023 when his beloved wife Connie went home to her Lord and savior Jesus Christ.

John is survived by his mother Betty of Navasota, Texas, younger brothers Mark of San Antonio, Texas and Brian of Pasadena, California, and son Christopher of The Woodlands, Texas.  He was preceded in death by his father F. Patrick Dunn and wife Connie.

In lieu of flowers for the service, John requested that funds be donated to the Be An Angel non-profit organization which helps children with special needs to improve their quality of life.
