John Reichert Dreyer, Jr. was born to John and Jane Dreyer on June 17, 1951, in Beaumont, Texas. He passed away at age 71 unexpectedly on April 13, 2023, at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, Texas. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held for him on Sunday, April 30, 2023, at 2:00 pm at Cy-Fair Helping Hands at 9606 Kirkton Dr., Houston, TX 77095.

John moved to Houston with his parents when he was three years old, attended Braeburn Elementary School, Jane Long Middle School, and graduated from Bellaire High School. John attended and graduated from Rice University,  obtaining a Master's Degree in Mathematics. He worked as a systems programmer at Entex, Memorial Hospital, Gordon Jewelers. John retired as Manager of Information Technology in 2005 after 26 years of employment with Bonner & Moore Computing Company.   After retirement, he and his wife, Jean, purchased and ran Vintage Gifts and Antiques, which they sold to start Cy-Fair Helping Hands, a local charity to help the homeless become self-sufficient.

John loved his family and extended family beyond measure. He enjoyed studying and discussing God's Word and helping the unfortunate. As co-founder of Cy-Fair Helping Hands, one of his biggest joys was visiting the homeless and distributing basic necessities to them. Even after he could not actively participate in homeless outreach, he supported his wife's endeavors to continue serving people experiencing homelessness. His other interests included computers, NASCAR, and the Houston Astros.

John was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Virginia Dreyer. He left in our care his wife, Jean; his son and daughter-in-law, Clay and Beth Dreyer; his stepchildren, John and Kim Chambers, Stephen and Melissa Vaughn, and Michelle Gardner, along with ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

John was a kind, gentle spirit and approached life with a wisdom and logic that eludes most of us. His sense of humor will continue to bring us smiles as we remember his memorable one-liners. He will be missed by all who knew him.
