John J. Costolnick, age 84, of Houston, Texas, passed away suddenly on February 26, 2023.  He and his wife, the former Grace Ann Marasco, would have celebrated their 61 ^st wedding anniversary in October.

Born in Carbondale, Pennsylvania on October 7, 1938, he was the son of the late Joseph J. "Toby" Costolnick and Helen Rushen Costolnick.  He was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church.  He attended and graduated from Saint Rose Academy and High School in Carbondale in 1956.  He then attended and graduated from Villanova University in Villanova, Pennsylvania with a Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering in 1960.  He earned a Master's Degree in Chemical Engineering from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois in 1961.

John joined ExxonMobil Chemical Company at their Bayway Chemical Plant in Linden, New Jersey in August, 1961.  In 1966 he moved to their New York Office in Investment Coordination.  In 1968, he transferred to their Baytown Chemical Plant in Baytown, Texas, where he served in various capacities until leaving there in 1976 as Plant Manager.  He then moved to their Central Engineering Organization in Florham Park, New Jersey as General Manager until 1979, when he transferred to their European Headquarters in Brussels, Belgium as Vice President of Agricultural Chemicals.  In 1984, he transferred to their United States Headquarters in Houston, Texas, as Vice President of Aromatics.  In 1986, he became Basic Chemicals Technology Vice President in Baytown.  In 1990, he became ExxonMobil Americas General Manager of Environmental, Safety, and Health in Houston.  In 1992, he returned to ExxonMobil Chemical as Vice President Engineering in Baytown until he retired in 1996.

John's greatest enjoyment was in seeing his children and grandchildren graduate from college and achieve success in their chosen fields.  He and Grace made a point in taking an annual vacation with the entire family.  John and Grace traveled extensively and thoroughly enjoyed their frequent cruises and African Safaris.

He is survived by his son, Robert, and his wife, Stacey, his daughter, Maria Hendon, and her husband, Joseph, his daughter, Ellen, and his daughter, Nancy Costolnick Powell, and her husband Michael, all residing in Houston, and his three beautiful grandchildren, Clayton, Allison, and Jonathan, his brother, Joseph Costolnick, and wife, Mary, of Roswell, GA, his brother-in-law, Charles Speicher of Carbondale, PA, and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Grace, his parents and two sisters, Patricia Speicher and Diana Costolnick.

The viewing will be at Klein Funeral Home on Sunday, March 5 ^th from 5 to 8 pm for family and friends and a small family funeral to follow Monday, March 6 ^th .  The family requests that any contributions in John's name be made to Prince of Peace Catholic Church or the charity of your choice.
