John Ford Chappell, 66, died unexpectedly November 15, 2021 in Houston Texas. He was born November 30, 1954 in Nashville, Tennessee, the only child of the late Colin P Chappell and Josephine F Chappell. John graduated from Vanderbilt University with a BS in Civil Engineering and continued his studies at Cornell receiving a Masters of Science in Civil Engineering. He started his career as an associate professor at Bucknell University for one year. He had a short employment with Chevron in New Orleans, Louisiana. He then took a job with Stress Engineering Services in Houston, Texas as a structural engineer where he worked his way up to the title of Principal. John was coming up on his 41st year with Stress Engineering Services.
John was an avid swimmer. He grew up as a competitive swimmer and swam on the men's swim team at Vanderbilt. John met Laura Lister at a swim meet and they married February 29, 1992. They have 2 children, twins, Colin and Clare.
John became a Christian at an early age and continued his strong faith throughout his life. He was an avid sports fan specifically college football, Vanderbilt baseball and the Houston Astro's. He was also an Eagle Scout.
John is survived by his wife Laura and 2 children, Colin and Clare.
