John Phillip Burns was born on January 15, 1938 in
Altus Oklahoma, and passed away peacefully in his home
in Houston, Texas on Tuesday, November 12, 2019, after
81 years of life. He is preceded in death by his parents,
Edgar and Thelma Burns, and his brother, Bill (Wife
Gerry). He is survived by his loving wife Joan of 56 years,
daughters Joy Miller (Husband Todd) and Andrea Oakley
(Husband David), son Andy (Wife Teri), grandchildren
Sarah and Caleb Miller and Austin and Ryan Burns.
John loved to run marathons in his younger years, then
moved onto riding his bike in the MS 150! He lead a youth
group on a program called The Wilderness Trek at
Bammel Church of Christ in the late 70s to mid 80s. Yes,
John loved the great outdoors!
He was a walking ministry for Christ, being the first
person to greet you at church, to actively seeking the lost
as he always carried his Bible in hopes of having a Bible
study with an individual or a group. When he was not
greeting or setting up a Bible study, he was the song
leader either at church or a church event.
He worked in the oil business until the mid 80s, then
was the manager for Harlow Filter Supply until his
retirement in November 2016.
He was a faithful member at the church of Christ in
Champions. He loved going to church and church related
activities as the men's breakfast, men's night out or the
annual Christmas banquets.
He will be missed so much by his physical family and his
church family that he loved dearly. But going to his
forever home is his reward for living for Christ in any way
he could possible do
