The Reverend John Paul Aymond, Jr. went to his heavenly home on December 5, 2021.

John was born May 1, 1942 in Bremerton, Washington to Captain John Paul and Fay Genevieve (Arnspiger) Aymond. As his father was in the Navy, John grew up on or around Naval bases around the country including a tour in Naples, Italy. He graduated high school from Francis C. Hammond High School in Alexandria, Virginia in 1960.

He met the love of his life, Lucy Linda (Wheeler) at a freshman dance at Rice University in the fall of 1961 and married Lucy on September 4, 1965. He served 21 years in the U.S. Marine Corps, retiring as Lt. Colonel in 1986. He served two tours in Vietnam and one in Okinawa. John was fiercely loyal in serving his country but believed passionately in his second career when he responded to God's calling into the ministry.

John attended Perkins School of Theology and graduated with a Master of Divinity in 1990. He was ordained as an Elder in 1992. He served United Methodist churches in the Central Texas Conference, retiring officially in 2007. He did continue to work as a retired Associate Pastor until 2012. His ministry career included leading and assisting churches, taking part in the KAIROS prison ministry, and leading Disciple Bible Study.

In addition to his loving wife, Lucy, John is survived by his children Christine (David) Porter and Matt (Julie) Aymond, and his grandchildren Zac Porter, Cole Aymond, and Farren Colvin. Additionally, he is survived by his brother King Aymond, sister Fay (Bob) Fountain, brother-in-law, Buzz Wheeler, and sister-in-law, Jewel Wheeler and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Captain John Paul and Fay Genevieve (Arnspiger) Aymond, parents-in-law Peyton and Trudy Wheeler, and his sister-in-law, Nancy Wheeler.

John loved his Lord and his family with all of his heart. One of his favorite things do was to play games together as a family – very competitively!! In 2011, John was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease traced directly to his exposure to Agent Orange during his Vietnam tours. He always remained steadfast in his faith that God would take care of him and his precious Lucy throughout this difficult journey.

He leaves behind a legacy of service, a beautiful family, numerous friends, and many testimonies of how his ministry touched so many people.
