John Preston Adams, 90, of Houston, Texas passed away November 3 ^rd , 2022.  John was born on May 14, 1932 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma to the late Henry P. Adams and Grace (Hall) Adams.

His wife of 71 years, Mary Louise Carpenter Adams, survived nine days after his passing.

John was preceded in death by his sisters:  Ruth Carleton & Donna Lee Wyatt.

John is survived by his daughters and their families:

Linda Jefferson, her husband, Jacob

Karen Walker, her husband, Jim

Lisa Davis, her husband, Glen

Johnni Fraley, her husband, Steve

John leaves a legacy of loving his family including 13 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.  He also leaves a legacy of faith believing in Jesus Christ as His Savior and knowing life on earth is a temporary assignment.

He lost his battle of cancer but his security was in his forever home: heaven.

John Adams' parents were educators:  Henry or HP was a professor at Oklahoma State University and established technical institutes in Pakistan and Brazil.  He passed on his love of hunting and fishing to John.  John picked up additional interests in golfing, bowling, and a variety of card games.  I guess you could say, he was a "gamer"!  He grins the most when he admits that he bowled a perfect "300".    His mom, Grace, lived to be 101.  She was an athlete and played on the basketball varsity team at Ok State.  After raising her children, she taught as a high school home economics teacher.  Her game was bridge and taught it to whoever wanted to learn.

His sister, Ruth, was bit by the genealogy bug and confirmed that there is some John Adams' and John Quincy Adams', the 2 ^nd and 6 ^th president of the U.S., blood flowing in dad's veins.  Since he was the only son of HP and dad had only girls, variations of John Preston Adams have been chosen as names of some of his grandchildren.

John worked his way up to management of a residential and commercial HVAC company in Amarillo, Texas; however his favorite job was his move to Houston working with Randall's Food & Drug stores in the early eighties.  Randall stores were quickly multiplying in the greater Houston area where he served as a store engineer and eventually the Vice President of Facilities Management when he retired in 1996.

Although John was a man of few words, God inspired him to be a friend and encourager, to advocate for widows, and be faithful in his church which included serving as a deacon for several years at Houston NW Church.  John and Louise were members of HNW for about 40 years.  He also served on the board of New Life Adoption Agency in its beginning stages.  John and Louise were the first shepherding family of an unwed mother for New Life.

John recommends reading THE PURPOSE DRIVEN LIFE by Rick Warren.  It was his constant companion in his later years.  This book challenged him to continue to develop his friendship with God and share the fact that God has a purpose for us in every season of life.
