Joe Stewart was born in Hutchinson, Kansas, on November 24, 1949, to Oscar (Chester) and Ima Jean Chapman Stewart.  He went to school at Hirschi High School in Wichita Falls, Texas.  In 1968, he moved to Loco, Oklahoma.  In 1969, he went into the Army and from 1970 to 1971 he was in Vietnam serving his time as a Corporal.

After Vietnam, he decided he wanted to be a welder and moved to Wichita Falls. For a couple of years, he also worked at McAlister Trucking.  Later, he moved to Abilene to be a welder in the oil field for 30 years.  Following that, Joe relocated to Odessa, Texas, where he met and married Betty in 1998.

Betty was transferred to Magnolia, Texas, in 2005 and this was the beginning of Joe's love for demolition.  He went to Aruba for a year and a half and returned to the Houston area working for several demolition companies where he acquired the name, "Demo Joe."  He felt that he had found his calling and he really loved it!  He was forced to retire in 2019 due to lung cancer. He was cured from lung cancer in late 2019 but was later diagnosed with pancreatic cell cancer in March of 2020 and fought it for several years.

Joe is survived by his wife of 24 years, Betty Stewart of Magnolia, Texas; his son Gregory and wife Naoko and their two daughters, Claire and Amelia of Conroe, Texas;  and extended family by marriage to Betty, Joe is also survived by Wayne and Michelle Huber and their children, Hayden and Hope; Johnnie Eichor and his two daughters, Summer and Sarah of Pearland, Texas; and several other extended family members that fondly referred to Joe as "Papa Joe."  He also has three brothers and a sister.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Donna Jean Archer, and his parents.

Friends are invited to visit with the family between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Sunday, February 5, at Klein Funeral Home - Magnolia/The Woodlands, 14711 FM 1488, Magnolia. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, February 6, in the funeral home chapel. Interment with military honors will take place at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 8, at Houston National Cemetery.
