Jay Joe Marsh III passed away on December 28, 2023, from complications related to Alzheimer's disease.

Joe was born in Memphis, Tennessee on May 6, 1940, to Jay Joe Marsh, Jr. and Marcia Lee Sherman Marsh. The Marsh family moved from Memphis to a farm in Forest Hill, Tennessee in 1952 and then to Collierville, Tennessee in 1958.

Joe graduated from Collierville High School in 1958 and joined the Marine Corps in 1959. Shortly after joining the Marine Corps, he married Carla Catherine Andre. While in the Marines, Joe participated in the Bay of Pigs invasion as well as the Cuban Missile Crisis. He learned about and became proficient in military electronic communication systems. Joe was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps in 1963 and returned to Memphis, Tennessee with Carla and daughters Andie and Leslie.

Joe leveraged his military experience in electronics and went to work for WREC television station in Memphis. He attended Christian Brothers College where he studied electrical engineering. Joe received several honors while attending CBC including the Thomas Lipsmeyer Award and Who's Who. Upon graduation from CBC Joe moved with Carla and their daughters to Houston, Texas where he began his career with Shell Oil.

During his tenure at Shell, Joe rose to various management positions, eventually becoming Director of Shell Communications. While at Shell he spent an extended amount of time in Alaska specifically Prudhoe Bay and Deadhorse. He thoroughly enjoyed the extreme weather conditions and getting to know the Alaskan people.

Upon his retirement from Shell in 1998, Joe formed his own consulting company, which he ran until a few years before his death.

Joe and Carla were avid travelers and cruised all over the world including Antarctica, the Amazon and Iceland. They went on over 20 cruises around the globe with their dear friends, the Gutowskys and the Grosses.

Even though he was only in the Marine Corps 4 years, Joe always had a special place in his heart for the Marines. After 9/11, Joe volunteered his time and resources to lead an effort to sponsor the 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Division, Kilo Company in Iraq by organizing the fundraising, procurement and shipping of much-needed supplies to the 250 men and women in that Company fighting to protect America's freedom.

Joe was a car enthusiast with Corvettes being his car of choice. He had numerous project cars that he worked on in one of his favorite places - his fully equipped shop. Joe loved car racing and even raced his own Corvette as part of the Houston SCCA (Sports Car Club of America). He also enjoyed being part of the local Corvette club.

Joe was a good friend and mentor to many who benefited from his vast knowledge of everything technical or car-related.

He leaves behind his wife of 64 years, Carla, daughters Andie Wolfer (Eric), Leslie Norton (Chris), grandchildren Alexandra Weust (Justin), Cole Wolfer, Cassidy Wolfer and Hank Tienken as well as great grandson Harlan Weust.

Joe also leaves behind two brothers, David Marsh and Lee Marsh (Nancy), nephew Andrew Marsh and brother-in-law Charles Andre. He is proceeded in death by his parents, brother Sherman Marsh, nephew Timothy Marsh and sister-in-law McGehee Marsh.

There will be a gathering of friends and family on January 17, 2024, between 4-8 pm at Klein Funeral Home, 16131 Champion Forest Drive, Spring, Texas. Joe will be interred at Houston National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association in Joe's name.
