Joe Dow Hartwell

Joe Dow Hartwell passed away peacefully on June 5, 2020 in Cypress, Texas. He was born on December 17, 1930 to Joe and Hazel Hartwell in Dallas, Texas. Joe graduated from San Jacinto High School in Houston and went on to attend Texas A&M University. He graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. After college, he served as a First Lieutenant in the United States Air Force. Then he pursued his career with several companies, including Phillips Petroleum. He founded Hartwell Environmental Corporation in the 1970's and continued his work there until his retirement. He met Bonnie Hartwell and they married in the fall of 1980. Joe was a longtime member of Lakewood United Methodist Church in Houston. If you knew Joe, you know that he loved his Aggie football. He would talk football with anyone who would lend an ear. Joe never met a stranger. He was a generous man, who would happily give the shirt off of his back to anyone who was in need. He was a loving husband and father and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Joe is survived by his wife Bonnie Hartwell and five children, Joe M. Hartwell, Julie Callahan (Michael), Nancy Benton, Steve Ringo (Susie) and daughter-in-law, Sheri Hartwell; six grandchildren, Rian Hartwell, Branden Hartwell, Clayton Benton, Ashley Benton, Jack Ringo and Evan Ringo.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Hazel Hartwell, his sister, Mildred Reid and his son, Lee Hartwell.

Joe will be buried at the Aggie Field of Honor Cemetery in College Station, Texas. A memorial service will be held at a date and time to be determined later.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Lakewood United Methodist Church at 11330 Louetta Road, Houston, Texas 77070 .
