Joe Ross Carnes Jr. passed away on Sunday, August 6, 2017. He was predeceased by his parents, Joe Ross Carnes Sr., and mother Mary Frances Birdsong, as well as his sister Joann Carnes Pietres., and his first wife, Aline(Ike) Eisenhauer.

He leaves behind his wife, Jean Borne Carnes, his stepson, James O. Langley, and wife Terri Deitrich Langley, and their children Ashleigh Langley, Justin Babcock, and Ashlee Babcock Salvatore, and Ashlee' children, Briana Blayke Torres, and Grayson Salvatore, stepdaughter Dana Harris Williams, and husband Mike Williams, and their children Steven Harris, his wife Sommer Harris and their children Devyn Harris, and Leelan Harris, two nephews through his first marriage, Gene Eisenhauer, and Dwight Eisenhauer, as well as numerous nephews and nieces from his first marriage.

Joe was born on March 1, 1922, in Alexandria, La. Soon the family moved to Houston, Texas. He attended the University of Houston until World War Two when he entered service in November 1940. He was transferred to the Army Air Corp and was trained as a B-17 pilot. He then was transferred to England and based at Grafton Underwood, England. His unit was the 8th Air Force, 384th Bomb Group, Army Air Corps.

He served as pilot in command of the B-17 Bomber the "Tremblin Gremlin" until he was shot down over Ardennes, France, which at that time was under German occupation. He was helped by the French resistance to return to his unit. Numerous other missions followed, the Rhineland, Ardennes, Normandy, and Northern France.

Joe flew 25 missions and earned two Distinguished Flying Crosses, 6 Air Medals with 4 leaf Oak Clusters, the Victory Medal, EAMS campaign Medal, 4 Bronze Service Stars, The American Theatre Campaign medal, and numerous others. Joe attained the rank of Captain upon his honorable discharge from the Army Air Corps in 1946.

After the war, Joe joined a construction and engineering firm that specialized in Oil field construction, where he traveled extensively through Scotland, the North Sea, Mexico, and Central America. Afterwards he was contracted to help build an Oil and Gas separating plant in Bolivia. This was all helped by the fact that he was an avid pilot and flew himself to many of these locales.

His hobbies were golf, and flying his own plane, a Cessna 172.

Funeral services will be held at Klein Funeral Home, Tomball, Texas at 2pm. Friday, August 18th.
