JoAnn McCaskill, 73, loving wife, homemaker, mother, and grandmother passed into eternal rest 5 May 2016. JoAnn fought a long, hard, battle with COPD, and amazed her Doctors with her srength, tenacity, and determination. Her family could have told them that -- she embodied those characteristics all of her life, along with her respect for God, and love for her family.

JoAnn was born in Denver, Colorado on January 21, 1943, to Arthur and Marjorie

Bernshausen. As the eldest of 5 siblings (three boys and two girls), she was called upon at an early age to be the resident mom and housekeeper, as her dad was in the service, and her mom worked outside the home to help support the family.

Since her Dad was in WWII and Korea, and stayed in the military post-war, JoAnn had a much traveled childhood. The family lived variously in White Plains, NY, Oakland, CA, Wiesbaden Germany, Tokyo, Gifu and Nagoya, Japan, and finally in Houston and Genoa, TX when her dad retired from the Air Force.

She had many warm memories of her friends, both US and Japanese, growing up and going to school in many places. She finally landed in South Houston Jr High School, and graduated from South Houston High School in 1961. She then put herself through business college and started working at the then City National Bank in downtown Houston, riding the bus from Genoa to downtown every day.

In April, 1962, she married a kid she had met and dated in High School, John McCaskill. Once their son John was born, she became a full time mother and wife, supporting John through night school at The University of Houston. She always felt like they both graduated in 1969 from UH.
JoAnn dearly loved her children, John and Jan, their spouses, Pam and Tom, and her grandchildren, Jamie, Jake, and Kylie. She loved photography, housekeeping, gardening, cooking, flower arranging, and decorating. She always sent the best cards, pictures, and gifts to everyone. Each one was prepared with love and devotion, and specific to that person. She loved clipping little articles she thought that person would like, and enclosing them with a card or note.

JoAnn is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, John, two children, John McCaskilll and his wife, Pamela of Northville Michigan, and Jan Molina and her husband Tom from Beaumont, TX, three grandchildren, Jamie Molina, attending Emerson College in Boston, Ma, Jacob Molina, just graduating from St. Stephen's Episcopal School in Austin, TX (and starting Babson College in Wellesley, MA), and Kylie McCaskill, completing 8th grade at Hillside Middle School, excitedly preparing to enter Northville High School in the fall, and continuing to enjoy dancing in Northville, MI. She is also survived by her brother Larry Bernshausen and his wife Sally, of Kingwood, TX, and her sister Barbara Pritchett and husband Jim of worthington, OH, and her sister in law Anna Bernshausen, of Wharton, TX. Last but not least, her many cousins, nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, and other much loved "outlaws" from both the Gray and Bernshausen families.

JoAnn was pre-deceased by her father Arthur Bernshausen, Mother Marjorie (Pat), her bothers Donnie Robert and David Michael, and by her Mother In Law Helen, and Father In Law J.W.McCaskill, jr.

The last few months of her life were very hard on her, both physically and emotionally. She was prepared to go, and wanted to go without a lot of drama and publicity. We tried to respect that as much as possible. Her remains will be cremated, and a memorial service will be held 2PM, Monday, May 23, 2016 at Klein Funeral Home Chapel, Cy-Fair, to tell JoAnn stories and say goodbye.
