Joan 'Joanie' Catherine Pintkowski, 77, of Spring, Texas passed away on January 9, 2024, after a decades long battle with Multiple Sclerosis.
Joanie was born on October 31, 1946, to Joan and Stuart Walker in Detroit, Michigan. She graduated from Osborn High School in 1964 and started a job at Chevy Engineering, working her way up from the file room. In 1980, Joanie and Jim moved to Spring, Texas and eventually founded a successful small business which they ran together for many years.
Joanie had a full, meaningful life filled with love and connections that she maintained her entire life. She met Jim in 1956 when they were just 10 and 12. They began dating in 1962, married in 1965 and had two children, James and Jennifer. Joanie was a courageous, loving and fiercely independent woman who faced lifelong challenges. She had a decades-long battle with MS that left her confined to a wheelchair most of her adult life; but that did not stop her from living fully and traveling the world for decades with Jim. Joanie and Jim had a strong social network of friends and often entertained in their home with perfectly planned parties that will forever be remembered.
In 2007, she lost her beloved Jim to pancreatic cancer and then in 2017 lost her home and possessions during Hurricane Harvey. Yet, she managed to overcome every challenge with dignity and perseverance. Through it all she remained very active in her community, serving on Champion Forest Women's Club, Champion Forest Garden Club, the Symphony League, Wine Tasting Club, Book Club, and was the treasurer of the Champion Forest Investment Group. She was also the editor of the Champion Forest Newsletter for many years. She was an avid donor and supporter of Northwest Assistance Ministries and various other non-profit groups that were dedicated to housing the homeless, supporting the less fortunate and providing for those in need.
Joanie was preceded in death by Jim, the love of her life and husband of 42 years, and her parents Joan and Stuart Walker. She is survived by son James and wife Stephanie; daughter Jennifer and husband Jon; granddaughter and the light of her life, Rilynn; three step grandchildren Katy, Lianna and Nicholas; sisters Pat and Carol; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She remains in the memories of her network of friends, confidants, dedicated care givers, and all those she touched in her 77 years.
Joanie's love and immense strength has inspired those who were fortunate enough to know her. May she rest in peace, surrounded by the warmth of the love she shared with her family and holding the hand of her lifelong love, Jim.
A celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on February 2, 2024, at Northgate Country Club located at 17110 Northgate Forest Dr, Northgate Forest, TX 77068. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
