Joan Marie Brautigam DeLeon, 74, of Hallettsville, TX, passed away March 4th, 2025.  She was born on January 10, 1951, in Tomball, Texas to the late Victor and Sunny Brautigam.

Joan spent most of her life in Tomball, excelling in her schoolwork and was active in basketball, volleyball, track, band and girl scouting with her mom as the troop leader. She helped on the family ranch in Decker Prairie with all the animals and working the land.  She also went to Business School and took a job with the Tenneco National Bank in Houston.  She became a mother in 1972 and again in 1975.  Her love of playing sports continued as she played softball for many years on teams with her mother and later with her daughter. She also loved to watch her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren play as well as watching many sports on t.v.  Once the kids started school, she worked as a bookkeeper and in the meat market in the Brautigam IGA in town and later she and the kids took over the Brautigam ranch in 1991 after her father's passing.  She was a lover of all animals, so it suited her to a tee.  She was also a Secretary with the FFA booster club while the children were in school and would help transport other kids' show animals if they needed help.  Joan started working at Tomball ISD in 1981 and after 37 years retired from there in 2018.  She bravely moved the ranch to Hallettsville in 2021 continuing the Brautigam legacy there.

She was a mother and grandmother to many, a faithful friend, a selfless provider, and the family historian.  Joan never backed down from hard work or a good time.  She was strong but through much adversity she remained witty and optimistic. Her good character, strength and perseverance cast a big shadow, and she leaves behind an exemplary reputation.

She is survived by her children, Dacie and Justin Wood, Tobry and Tina DeLeon, and Megan Williams, her grandchildren, Trenton and Stephanie McEwin, Ashlyn and Steven Ladner, Tobry Jr. and Caitlyn DeLeon and Colton DeLeon as well as great-grandchildren Jaxson, Harper, Kaia, Rosalie and Tulsa.

Including her mother and father, she was preceded in death by her brother Freddie and her daughter-in-law Cheri.

The family will receive visitors Thursday March 13, 2025, from 5pm to 8pm at Klein Funeral Home in Tomball, Texas.  Funeral Services will be held on Friday March 14, 2025, at 2:00pm.  Since Joan's favorite color is blue, we ask that you to wear something blue.  Interment to follow in Rose Hill Cemetery on Seidel Cemetery Rd.The family welcomes you to join them after at Decker Prairie Community Center at 32434 Decker Prairie Rd, in Magnolia.

Serving as pallbearers are Tobry Sr., Tobry Jr., Colton, Justin, Trent, Greg Collins, Chris Moore, and Sean McKenna; honorary pallbearers, former husband of 37 years Frankie DeLeon Sr. and Special Friend Lawrence Borgstedt.
