Joan Ann Blocher, 81 years old, went to be with the Lord on Friday, October 19, 2018. Joan was born December 14, 1936 in Delhi, NY. She was the daughter of Harold and Bertha Marriott and sister to Richard Marriott.

Joan graduated from Union University School of Nursing in 1957 as a Registered Nurse. During her school days, she met Jim Blocher on a blind date and they fell in love. After an engagement of several months, they were married on December 28, 1957. Joan worked as an ER nurse, Neo-Natal Unit nurse and as a Charge Nurse as Jim's job took them all over the country. They eventually settled in West Texas in Midland. There they had 3 lovely daughters. While raising the 3 girls, Joan continued working full time in various capacities as an RN. After another move to Houston, TX in 1974, Joan became the school nurse for both Wunsche and Twin Creeks Middle Schools. One of her most lasting actions as a school nurse was implementing an early exam program for scoliosis for middle school students. This early detection exam provides students with early diagnosis and earlier care for those affected by the disease. This program is still in effect today. During these years, both Jim and Joan attended band concerts and many a high school football game to watch their girls march and dance.

After retiring, Jim and Joan traveled the world with friends. They enjoyed visiting places such as Russia, Turkey, Europe and Australia. They enjoyed watching their family grow as their daughters married and had children. Holidays were filled with joy and watching the grandchildren grow.

Joan loved playing bridge, painting and working on her many varied craft projects - knitting, crocheting, making pillows, embroidery, sewing, making jewelry and creating baby blankets for the Linus program.

Joan became the Poet Laureate for the Delphians Society. Through Delphians, she attended many intellectual lectures and activities. Her most important love was serving the Lord at Resurrection Lutheran Church by adding her voice to the church choir, providing many babies with baptismal napkins and being actively involved with LWML. She served as the President, Treasurer and Membership Coordinator during her many years with LWML. She also taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School and attended many Bible Study classes.

Joan is survived by her husband of 60 years Jim; daughters, Jill, Jan and JoAnne. She also leaves behind 5 grandchildren: Marlon and wife Jennifer; Rachel; Sabina; Jenny; and Josh and wife Hannah.
