Jo Marie Ash McCurdy, born October 22, 1939 in Alto, Texas to the late Arthur Ash and Bobbie Pearl Fleming.

Jo Marie is survived by her daughters Annette Marriott, Sue Marriott and wife Ann Kelley, Gloria Matthews and husband Jack, Gail House and husband Michael, Terry West and husband Gary; son, Paul McCurdy and wife Barbara; 23 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 22 years, Kenneth Wayne McCurdy; sons, Michael Norman Marriott, Gary Allen Groda, and Kenneth Wayne McCurdy Jr.

Jo Marie (Ash) McCurdy served as Matriarch to a large diverse and dynamic clan of family and friends.  She was known for at least 2 things - being put together, and for her big love.  Her home was designed for bringing people together comfortably, her outdoor sanctuary cultivated connection with nature & one another, her snazzy and at times eyebrow-raising outfits kept everyone feeling alive (if not under-dressed).  She was the only person we know who could wake up well-coiffed!

She was also a savvy business woman, co-leading a successful masonry company for the past 30 years. But more than anything, she was a Mother.  She mothered – the verb not the noun – all those around her.  She worried about us, expected the best of us and was the first to unflinchingly get our back when anything went wrong.  Even to the end she fussed over us (a mothering quality if there ever was one) and saw to it that her fish in the pond continued to receive her nurturance (they were fed twice a day so they'd know when to expect her).  Her long-term employees are family, and until her last breath, she mothered even the hospice staff helping her transition.  They said they'd never seen anything like it, and were touched by her kindness and deep care.

Her grace, vivaciousness, beauty, spunk and very dignified presence will be deeply missed.

A time of visitation will be held from 1-2 pm with the funeral service to begin at 2 pm on Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at the Klein Funeral Home in Tomball.  Burial will follow at the Klein Memorial Park in Tomball on FM 2920.
