Obituary

JoAnn Mixon Snow was born in Houston, Texas, on October 23, 1932, and went home peacefully on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, just shy of her 94th birthday.

JoAnn was deeply loved by many and lived a long and full life. She spent many years working in the real estate and mortgage businesses alongside her beloved brother, Richard. She was also a talented decorator and home stager, a passion she shared for many years with her dear friend, Shirley. JoAnn had a special gift for creating beautiful and welcoming spaces. She was always the first to offer her decorating talents—not only in her own home, but in the homes of her family and friends as well. Creating beautiful spaces for the people she loved was truly one of her greatest passions.

JoAnn was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Joseph and Eleanor Mixon, and her beloved brother, Richard Mixon.

She is survived by her daughters, Gayla Snow Lizotte and Deborah Snow Opalacz (Paul Opalacz). She was blessed with two granddaughters, Nicki Gail Lizotte and Taylor Lauren Walker, and one grandson, Ryan Opalacz, as well as eight great-grandchildren: Kenneth, Raegan, Kennedee, Madison, Karsyn, Olivia, Briar, and Baker, whom she loved dearly.

To her family, she was known by many loving names—Meme, Grandma, and JoJo—but no matter what they called her, she was a cherished and irreplaceable part of their lives. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Linda Mixon, as well as her nephew, Ricky Mixon (Lisa), niece Terry Harvey (Dave) and great-niece Hannah Harvey.

She was fortunate to have many special and longtime friends throughout her life, especially her dear friends Shirley Williams and Linda Stiborik, who held a special place in her heart.

JoAnn will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her, but her memory will live on through her family, friends, and the beautiful life she created around her.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, as JoAnn wished for her loved ones not to mourn her passing, but instead to come together and celebrate the wonderful life she lived.

She lived a long and full life, and she will be loved and remembered for her sense of humor, light heartedness and great outlook on life.
