Jimmie Don Sorrells, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 18, 2026, at the age of 85. Born on December 21, 1940, in Dallas, Texas, Jimmie lived a life marked by devotion to his faith, family, community, and work.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Leon Pierce Sorrells and Waldine Valaska Patton, and his son-in-law Kevin McElroy (January 2nd, 2026). Jimmie is survived by his wife of nearly 62 years, Martha Kay Sorrells, with whom he built a life filled with love, partnership, and unwavering commitment. Together they raised three children who were the pride of his life: Jeff Sorrells and his wife Kittie, along with their sons Benjamin and his wife Kortnie, and Tyler; Brad Sorrells and his wife Kathleen, and his daughters Lacey and Leah; and Beth McElroy and her daughters Kayleigh and Addison. Jimmie is also survived by his brother Bill Sorrells and wife Linda, and his sister Betty George and her husband Cecil, along with numerous nephews and nieces all of whom shared in a lifetime of cherished family memories.

A graduate of Houston's San Jacinto High School in the Class of 1959, Jimmie went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics from the University of Houston. His academic journey also included time at Texas Tech University, where he was a proud member of the Sigma Nu fraternity.  He served 18 months in the Marine Corp Reserves and received an honorary discharge.  Jimmie's professional life was defined by dedication and excellence. After working for several companies early in his career, he found his long-term professional home at IBM, where he worked for more than 25 years before retiring in 1993.

Jimmie's impact extended far beyond his career. He was deeply committed to serving his community in meaningful and lasting ways. Whether volunteering as a band booster president and chaperone, coaching youth sports, timing races for the neighborhood swim team, or contributing his time to the architectural control committee, Jimmie gave generously of himself. His love of music and fellowship found a home in the Goldenaires Men's Church Choir, where he shared his voice and his spirit with joy.

Those who knew Jimmie will remember his steady kindness, his willingness to help, his quiet humor, and the deep pride he took in his family. His legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched and in the family who loved him dearly.

He will be profoundly missed and forever cherished.
