Jesse Gerald Long, age 88, of Houston, passed away October 10th. He was born February 21st, 1937, in Murray, Missouri to Charles Raymond Long and Lorene Opal (Booth) Long.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy Long; son, Jeff Long; daughter, Marti Hosford; son-in-law, John Hosford; granddaughter, Whitney (Travis) Gaston; grandson, Brian (Alejandra) Hosford; grandson, David Hosford, as well as five great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his siblings Don Long, Hazel Hall and husband Joe and Bob and Carolyn Long.

Jess grew up in Commerce, OK and developed many longstanding friendships. During this time, he used to go hunting with Mickey Mantle and Billy Martin among others. He was in several bands during high school including Marching band, Dixieland band and a Polka band. After graduation from Commerce High School, Jess joined the navy and spent the next 8 years serving on the USS Carpenter destroyer in southeast Asia. He trained in electronics and telecommunications while serving, and once discharged, he went to work for the Bell system. He retired after 32 years and started a second career at Compac computers. He was very knowledgeable about electronics, and in fact built his own television, computer system and a Grandfather Clock! Throughout his life he had many interests; music, sound systems for his church, and more recently, genealogy. This passion took him to the UK and a visit to a genealogical library.

Jess was a Deacon at Bammel Road Church of Christ for several years, and more recently attended Church of Christ in Champions. In his last few years, he truly enjoyed visits from family and spending time with the great grandkids.

A Funeral Service will be held Monday, October 20th at 2PM, with an hour of visitation prior, at Klein Funeral Home, 16131 Champion Forest Drive, Spring, Texas 77379, with Minister Bryan McAllister and Wes Arnold officiating. Interment to follow at Klein Memorial Park. 9714 FM 2920, Tomball.

Serving as pallbearers are John Hosford, Travis Gaston, Brian Hosford and David Hosford; honorary pallbearers Jeff Long.
