Dr. Jesse Wayne Johnson was born on September 28, 1947 in De Queen, Arkansas and coming full circle, he passed from this earth on January 11, 2025 in De Queen. He was the 5th of 7 children born to Jesse and Ruth (Rink) Johnson.

He graduated from De Queen High School in 1965. Upon graduation, he attended Southern Arkansas University. From there, he went to Oklahoma State University to pursue a degree in Veterinary Medicine. He graduated from OSU with a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1973.

Soon after graduation, he established Johnson Veterinary Clinic in De Queen, Arkansas. It was a proud homecoming for him, and he spent many years in practice treating large and small animals for the community in which he had been raised.

Dr. Johnson went on to practice veterinary medicine in Oklahoma, Texas, and Arizona, making life-long friendships everywhere he went.

Upon moving to Cypress, Texas, Wayne and Debra established Longwood Animal Hospital. He followed that up by building Animal Medical Center where he had a long career and lots of devoted clients. He retired from AMC in 2017 in order to focus on his cattle, which was his lifelong passion.

Dr. Wayne Johnson is survived by his beloved wife, Dr. Debra Jackson, of the home, along with their son, Dr. Chase Wilder Johnson of Cypress, Texas, who followed in both his parent's footsteps to earn his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Texas A & M University in 2023. Dr. Johnson is also survived by his children Juli Smith, Jacque Dunford, Jesse Johnson and Jeanette Johnson. Left to cherish his memory include his sisters Phyllis Gaddis, Margie Christie and Carla Currence; brothers in law Johnny Jackson of Farmer's Branch Texas; Jim Jackson of Broken Bow, Oklahoma, and Kenneth Randol of Magnolia Texas, brother-in-law Ron Jackson and wife Linda of San Migeul, Mexico and sister-in -law Kathy Larsen and husband Mike of Cypress, Texas. Dr. Johnson leaves behind a host of extended family – nieces, nephews, cousins and far too many friends to mention.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents as well as siblings Neal Johnson, Charlotte Crenshaw and Anita Gentry.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 16th at 2:00 p.m. at Klein Funeral Home located at 1400 West Main Street in Tomball, Texas. Visitation will be held starting at 1:00 pm in the chapel. Following the service, we will gather at the Johnson home.

In De Queen, Arkansas, on Friday evening, January 17, from 5 to 7 p.m. a visitation will be held at Chandler Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow on Saturday, January 18 at 11:00 a.m. at Avon Cemetery in De Queen under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home.
