Jerry Dale Walker was born on August 23, 1945 in Homer, Nebraska to Amos and Bernice (Ross) Walker. He was the youngest of three boys growing up on a farm just east of Winnebago, Nebraska where he got an early education in the value of hard work.  He graduated from Winnebago High school in 1963. There he excelled both academically and athletically, participating in such sports as basketball, football and track and field.

After his High school graduation, at the age of seventeen, he left the family farm to attend college at the United States Military Academy, West Point, NY.   At West Point he studied diligently as well as excelling in intramural sports and military leadership. He was a letterman on the rugby team which enjoyed national collegiate success. His leadership skills saw him ascend through the West Point military ranks to the rank of Battalion Commander before graduating on June 7, 1967.

He was then commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army, Field Artillery Branch. As soon as he could, he married his high school sweetheart, Mary Morgan, in their hometown on June 18, 1967.  His military career took them to many cities both stateside and abroad. One notable stop was Bamberg, Germany where they welcomed their first child, Lisa, in February 1969.  A few months later he served a tour of duty in Vietnam, after which he was awarded several medals and commendations, including the Bronze Star. He also received a Master's Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Michigan during which time his son, Jeremy, was born in October 1972.

After ten years of active duty in the United States Army, he transitioned into the private sector as an engineer for Exxon.  However, he remained in the Army Reserve where he eventually retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel after 22 years of dedicated military service.

Although both of his career paths and travels took him all over the world, Jerry always remained a country boy at heart.  He loved the great outdoors and sports, particularly hunting. He was a man of great Christian Faith and a true American patriot. He believed in hard work, honesty, integrity, a sense of community and helping your neighbors. He modeled his life after the West Point Honor Code.  His many friends and coworkers viewed him as a dependable and caring confidant.

Most of all Jerry was a dedicated family man and enjoyed every moment of his fifty-three year marriage to the love of his life, Mary.  He was also a doting father and grandfather as well as an exemplary role model.  No words can truly or completely describe the totality of this man. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his Wife - Mary Walker, Daughter- Lisa Walker, Daughter's fiancé-Paul Lance, Granddaughter (Lisa's daughter)-Sara Buck, (All above of Spring, TX), Son - Jeremy Walker, Daughter-In-Law - Angela Walker, Granddaughter (Jeremy's daughter) - Payton Walker (Above of Austin, TX).  In addition to Brother-In-Law - Wes Knecht of Omaha, NE; Sister-In-Law - Vel  Lueders of Columbus, NE; Sister-In-Law - Bonnie Berg of Thurston, NE. and many other family and friends.
