Gerard "Jerry" Layton Turner 1934 – 2021
Gerard Layton Turner, loving husband of 49 years to his wife Betty, and 12 years to his second wife Janet, proud father, beloved grandfather, and great grandfather, passed away on November 24, 2021.
Jerry was born October 7, 1934, in Houston, TX to the late Henry Crosley Turner Sr. and Martha Jane Turner. He graduated from Reagan High School and received his Bachelor's in Business from the University of Houston. He and his wife Betty were married on August 30, 1957. They are parents to four children, seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Jerry worked in sales for most of his life and was also store Manager for several Firestone locations. In 1977 he became the proud owner of his own independent Firestone store. Jerry was a committed businessman, but his enjoyment in life was time spent with his family. This included square dancing, bowling, and traveling the world with his beloved "Betty Red" and spending time with his children during Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, FFA, dance, and other activities. He also enjoyed tinkering with old cars and was extremely active in the Vintage Thunderbird Club of Houston serving in the position of President for many years.
Jerry had a kind heart and he showed unconditional love to everyone he met. His positivity and happiness were loved by all who knew him. Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, Crosley and Martha Turner, his brother Hank Turner, his wife Betty Turner and his second wife Janet Teese Turner. He is survived by his sons Randy Turner and Roger Turner; daughters Janell Matticks and Dixie Reeves and her husband Darrin Reeves; Grandchildren Amanda Turner, Daniel Turner and his wife Erin Turner; Abigail Handel and her husband Jonathan Handel; Jessica Turner, Tracie Matticks, Kylie Matticks, Lexi Reeves, Sophie Teese and great granddaughter Ella Turner.
