On Sunday August 23, 2020, Jerry Lawrence Tillman, Sr., loving husband and devoted father of three children passed away at the age of 70. Jerry was born on June 15, 1950 in Dania, Florida to Melvin Lehman and Ann Lucile (Spahr) Tillman. On February 14, 1976, he married the love of his life, Susan Carroll Greene in Fort Lauderdale. They reared three children, one son Jerry Jr. and two daughters Katharine and Caroline.
Jerry grew up in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He graduated from Fort Lauderdale High School and earned his Bachelor of Applied Science degree from Florida Atlantic University.
Jerry was always industrious and started working at the age of twelve. His first job was delivering newspapers for the Sun Sentinel in Fort Lauderdale, a job he held for over 10 years. He then worked as a shoe salesman for Thom McCann while in college. He loved computers and was a programmer for Financial Computer Center in Fort Lauderdale and later worked for Harris Computer Corporation, Digital Equipment Corporation, Compaq and Hewlett-Packard. He retired as a Project Manager from Hewlett-Packard, Houston in 2006. He was a devoted volunteer whether it was for Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Swim Team, Band or Orchestra Boosters, PTA, Children of the American Revolution, Sons of the American Revolution, DeMolay, his church or one of the many organizations his family members belonged to. Jerry was always ready to lend a helping hand.
He was a member of Doric Chapter, Order of DeMolay and served as Master Councilor September 1968-January 1969. He was bestowed the Degree of Chevalier, the highest honor bestowed on an Active DeMolay. Jerry was a 32-degree Mason, member of Doric Lodge No. 140 F&AM and Lake Worth Scottish Rite. He was also a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, Orlando Chapter, Florida; National Association of Parliamentarians and Ninth Church of Christ Scientist, Houston.
Jerry was preceded in death by his father Melvin, his mother Ann and brother Ron. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Susan, his three children Jerry Jr. (wife Carrie), Katharine and Caroline; and six grandchildren, Desiree, Jerry III, Tylor, Celeste, Matthew and Logan.
Interment will be at a later date at Lauderdale Memorial Park in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
