Jerry Lowell Parmley, 87 of Spring, Texas passed away peacefully at his home on March 5,
2024.
Jerry was born on December 5, 1936 in Groesbeck, Texas to Merton and Emma Parmley, the
fourth of seven children. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Robert Parmley
and James Parmley, his sister Mary Frances (Joe Bob) Honeycutt, his wife Janie Fulmer Parmley,
daughter Shari McClendon, son Marty Fulmer and nephew Kevin Honeycutt.
Jerry attended Groesbeck Public School for 12 years and graduated from High School in 1955.
While in High School, Jerry was on the 1954 District Championship football team and was
selected as 1st team All-District tight end.
After High School, Jerry attended John Tarleton State College for several years. He then decided
to join the United States Army and spent two years in Germany. After an honorable discharge, he
attended Sam Houston State University and graduated in 1963 with a BBA degree.
Jerry spent 45 years working in the oil field. He went from being a roughneck on oil rigs in the
Oklahoma Panhandle to Mud Engineer with Magcobar and on to a sales specialty position with
Union Carbide where he retired in 1998 as an Account Executive. Throughout his career, Jerry
was known as a person who was dependable and successful in getting the job done. He was well
respected by his peers.
Family and community were always important to Jerry; he was the first to lend a helping hand.
He lived his life in service to others through his individuality and spirituality. Over the years he
loved to recount tales from his many travels and kept his listeners laughing with tales from
Alaska to China.
Jerry is survived by his brother Fred Parmley, his sister Kathryn (Wyman) Harriman, his sister
Paula Alexander, sister-in-law LaVerne Parmley, granddaughters Brooke (Jake) Burks and Marcy
(Trey) Butler, grandson Trey (Jessica) McClendon and great-grandchildren Suttyn Butler, Porter
Burks, Graham Burks, Stuart Butler, Ella Burks, Kate McClendon, Rhett Butler, Annie
McClendon and many nieces and nephews.
Jerry was fortunate to be able to fullfill his wish of living at home due to the excellent care of his
wonderful caregivers, Veronica Kaough and Roselin Bellard.
The family will receive visitors Tuesday, March 12, from 5:00-8:00 PM at Klein Funeral Home
16131 Champion Forest Dr. Spring, TX 77379. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, March
13, at 10:30 AM at North Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr. Houston,
TX, with Chaplain Neil Davis officiating.
