Jerry Cutler Coffey

January 4, 1940 - March 15, 2022

Jerry Cutler Coffey, beloved husband, father, and grandfather was called to his heavenly home on Tuesday, March 15, 2022 in Houston, Texas. Jerry was born on January 4, 1940 in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. His family moved to Texas where he was in the class of 1958 at Bellaire High School in Houston, Texas.

Jerry attended The University of Texas at Austin where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering and was honored with the Goodfellow Award for being an outstanding student. He was active on campus with the Kappa Alpha Fraternity and as a Silver Spur. He was also very involved with the Athletics Department, serving on the Southwest Conference Sportsmanship Committee, and loved managing the flash card section at the Longhorn football games. He met the love of his life, Sue Harper, in 1961 while she was also attending The University of Texas. They married after graduating in the summer of 1963.

After graduation, Jerry landed a dream job with the NASA Space Program in Clear Lake, Texas at the start of the Gemini program. After several exciting years with NASA, Jerry and Sue moved to Buffalo, New York where he worked for Bell Aero Systems. After the birth of their first child, Todd, they returned to the great state of Texas and settled in Houston, where their daughter, Kristin, was born. There, he continued his career in the Space Program with The Boeing Company to see Apollo 11 land on the moon. After leaving the Space Program, his career continued with Arthur Young & Company, BRH Mobillity, Professional Services Group, and he had several successful entrepreneurial endeavors.

Jerry was an Honorary Professor at Baylor University Hankamer School of Business for his outstanding service to the Center of Entrepreneurship and demonstrated interest in collegiate business education.

Jerry loved life to the fullest, his family, his friends, and his Second Baptist Bible Study class at his church where he was also a Deacon.

Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, Chase Cutler Coffey and Ruth Hall Coffey, and his brother Alan Eugene Coffey. He is survived by his wife, Sue Harper Coffey, his two children and their families: Kristin Coffey Jenkins and Drew Jenkins of Argyle, Texas; Todd Coffey and Rhonda Duff Coffey of Flower Mound, Texas; his grandchildren, Sarah Jenkins, Danny Jenkins, Cameron Coffey; and his sister Peggy Coffey.

Please join us on Monday, April 4 at 1:00 pm for a Celebration of Life at Second Baptist Church in the Hankamer Chapel (Woodway Campus) and a reception following at The Taste of Texas (10505 Katy Freeway).
