Jerry Y. Burks' Obituary
Jerry Young Burks, Jr., D.D.S. Born on January 19, 1932 in Henderson, Texas Memory Eternal, February 19, 2019 Jerry, or as he was lovingly referred to as 'Bubba', spent his childhood moving with the oil fields of East Texas with his family as they traveled through work for the Humble Oil Company. He enlisted in the Navy and served on the USS Tarawa during the Korean War, flying with the medical rescue helicopters. Upon his return, he earned his Bachelors Degree in Pharmacology at the University of Houston and went on to Graduate from University of Texas Dental school in 1966. He had a successful dental practice, later as an investigational pharmacologist for the V.A., and spent numerous hours teaching boating courses for The Power Squadron of Houston and flying on missions over the Gulf for the DEA. Jerry was beloved by the community and volunteered his time endlessly as a Lieutenant Colonel for Civil Air Patrol and President of his Rotary Club in Cedar Park and served as member of the parish council and usher for Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church. Jerry loved flying, fishing, hunting, gardening, sailing and boating with a passion that is unrivaled. He was happiest spending time with his parents, brothers, cousins, wife Angie, and daughters Stephanie 'Stuffy Angel' and Elizabeth 'Little Beth', and four grandsons whom he adored. He was a devoted and affectionate husband, father and grandfather who always put family first and raised them with a firm foundation in the Christian Faith. Jerry also never met a stranger and was known in the community for his kindness, smile and charity. Jerry was a man of honor, integrity, love and compassion. He will be deeply missed but his memory will forever be eternal.
