In Loving Memory of Jerry Lee Atkins

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jerry Lee Atkins, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Jerry went to be with the Lord on June 26, 2025, in Dallas, Texas, at the age of 86. A devoted child of God, he lived his life with quiet strength, deep faith, and an unwavering love for his family.

Jerry was born on July 23, 1938, in Plainview, Texas, to Dutch Atkins and Trevil Stone Atkins. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Bobby Gene; his father- and mother-in-law, Harold and Mildred DonCarlos; and his son, Jeffrey Scott Atkins.

In 1961, Jerry moved to Houston, where he later met the love of his life, Linda Ruth DonCarlos. After a yearlong courtship, they were married on July 15, 1966. Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Linda; his son, James Michael Atkins; daughter-in-law, Rachel; and his cherished granddaughters, Jessica, and Amanda.

A man of integrity and kindness, Jerry found joy in life's simple pleasures—the rising sun on a morning walk through the woods, the glow of a sunset over open water, or laughter following one of his famous stories. He felt closest to his Creator while outdoors, whether hunting, fishing, coaching little league teams, cheering on nephews from the stands, or watching his granddaughters share their talents through worship, singing, and theater. He truly loved life to the fullest.

Jerry will be remembered for his sense of humor, strong work ethic, steady leadership, and generous heart. He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, owned multiple businesses, and was a skilled pilot who flew and owned several aircraft. He coached countless youth football and baseball teams and was a passionate fan of the Houston Oilers, Texans, Astros, and the Texas Tech Red Raiders.

A long-time member of Champion Forest Baptist Church, Jerry served faithfully in many roles—including the children's ministry, as an usher, and as a member of the Building Committee for Phase I of the church's current campus.

He was a devoted husband whose love was steady and strong. A father who led by example. A generous grandfather whose granddaughters were the light of his life. Jerry's presence brought warmth and wisdom to those around him. His legacy of love, faith, kindness, hard work, and selfless giving lives on in all who knew him.

He will be deeply missed, but we find peace in knowing he is home with the Lord. His life was a blessing, and his memory a treasure.

Services will be held on Thursday, July 3, at Champion Forest Baptist Church – Visitation at 10:00 am and Funeral Service at 11:00 am with a reception to follow. Graveside Service will be at 2:00 pm at Earthman Resthaven Funeral Home & Cemetery (13102 North Fwy, Houston, Tx 77060).
