T/Sgt. (Ret) Jerry L. Ackerman

Jerry Lee Ackerman, 89, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, 01 May 2022. He was the son of the late Horace Edward Ackerman of Grand Lake, OK and Myrtle Jane Keller Ackerman of Springfield, MO. Born in Enid, OK on 01 July 1932, Jerry spent his formidable years in New Orleans, LA and Midwest City, OK graduating from Midwest City High School in May 1951, before entering the USAF in July 1952. Later that year Jerry married his High School Sweetheart and love of his life Jonne C. Harrison on 22 November 1952 in Del City, OK. This would be the beginning of 44 years of marriage as they traveled on life's journey confronting the challenges and embracing the joys along the pathways of their story together, always having their Faith in God to sustain them.

Jerry gave twenty years of service to his country as a career NCO in the USAF as an aircraft maintenance technician, crew chief, and flight engineer. He was stationed in Texas, Panama, Louisiana, Idaho, Viet Nam, and Maryland before retiring in 1972 from the 89th MAW SAM (Presidential Squadron). After his retirement from the USAF, he lived in Waco, TX, Greenville, TX, and Perry, OK employed by Qualitron Aero, E-Systems, Jetstream Inc. and the City of Perry as Airport Manager. After retiring from the City of Perry, Jerry moved to Spring, TX in 2008 where he lived his retirement years. He attended Klein United Methodist Church where he was active in his Sunday School Class and various church fund-raising events.

Jerry was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother, and friend to so many. He was so very kind and generous with his time and knowledge, always putting family members and friends first through very difficult life challenges and illnesses, to which end he is so loved and respected. Jerry was selfless, humble, and had a quiet, steady personality that guided him which allowed him to prioritize family, compassion, faith, love, and integrity. He was self-reliant, independent, and possessed a great mechanical mind; he knew no boundaries for solving challenges. His passion for aviation never subsided, still flying his Beechcraft and his Model Airplanes through 2019. He also enjoyed being on the lake; boating, fishing, sailing, and water-skiing were some of the activities he enjoyed with children, grandchildren, and family. There just was not anything about being in God's creation which he did not enjoy to the fullest.

He is survived by his son: William L. Ackerman; two grandchildren: Jerrad L. Ackerman (Allison) and Audra J. Ackerman; one brother Garry A. Ackerman (Lois); one brother-in-law: Jack R. Burchfield (Connie); five great grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Lily, Ella, Alanna, and Jared; and his Fiancée Susan C. Phillips. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his wife: Jonne C. Harrison Ackerman; infant son: Edward L. Ackerman; daughter: Susann C. Ackerman; brother-in-law: Robert W. Morris; and second wife: Mary J. Johnson Ackerman.

The family will receive friends Monday 09 May 2022 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at The Klein Funeral Home 16131 Champion Forest Drive Champions, Texas. Memorial services will be Tuesday 10 May 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Klein United Methodist Church 5920 FM 2920 Spring, Texas with burial to follow at Sunny Lane Cemetery Del City, OK.
