Jean Feller
March 12, 1932 - September 17, 2023
Jean Young Feller was born on March 12, 1932, in Schooley's Mountain, New Jersey to Russell and Gladys Young. She was the first of their two children. Her family moved to Hackettstown, New Jersey when she was two years old. Jean was a graduate of Hackettstown High School, Class of 1950 and a graduate of Centenary University, Class of 1952.
Jean worked at Lackawanna Leather Company in Hackettstown as a bookkeeper after graduation. She later found her passion for working with children as a substitute teacher for the Hackettstown School District, as well as working in the guidance office as an administrative assistant to the counselors. Jean continued her career in education as a substitute teacher when she and her family moved to Newton, North Carolina in 1971. Upon moving to Houston in 1981, she worked as a para-professional in the Cypress-Fairbanks School District until she retired.
She married her husband of 64 years, Warren Feller on June 22, 1952. They raised two daughters Katherine and Elizabeth. Jean's greatest joy was spending time with her family. Jean's daughters and her grandsons, Tyler and Blake, her great granddaughter Billie Elizabeth, and nieces and nephews meant the world to her.
Throughout her life Jean served her community and her church. As a teenager she served on the Teenage Republican Committee in Hackettstown. She later served as the Hackettstown Republican Club president and was head of the election board for the district. She was the president of the Hackettstown PTO when her children were in high school. When she moved to Houston, she was Vice President of the Homeowners Board Harvest Bend-The Village and Head of the Recreation Committee.
Jean's church service began at Trinity United Methodist Church in Hackettstown where she was a soloist and member of the Youth and Senior choirs. As a member of Trinity, Jean served as the President of the United Methodist Women (UMW), Chairman of the Administrative Board, President of Wesley Group and served on the Finance Committee. She was the Vice-President of the Western District Northern New Jersey Conference. She also delivered Meals-on-Wheels and distributed Sunday alter flowers to nursing home residents and homebound members after church service. While residing in North Carolina she was a member of First United Methodist Church in Newton, where she sang in the choir, was a soloist and served on the Mission Committee. Jean and Warren joined Cypress Methodist Church in 1982. At CMC Jean was a member of the choir and a soloist. She was also a member of the UMW, Program Coordinator for 50 Plus and President of the Administrative Board. She was a member of the Truth Seekers Bible Study group and a member of the Crusaders Sunday School class.
Jean is preceded in death by her late husband Warren, her brother Dale, nephew Daniel Young, brother-in-law Dalton Feller, and sister-in-law Shirley Young. She is survived by her daughters Katherine Feller Howell and Elizabeth Feller Miles and their spouses Michael Howell and Donald Miles, grandsons, Tyler Miles and girlfriend Tori Tinsley, Blake Miles and wife Kara Baker Miles and great-granddaughter Billie Elizabeth Miles, sister-in-law Carol Feller, nieces Bonnie Young Elston, Robin Young Everingham, Susan Feller and husband Jim Lilly, and nephew John Feller and wife Linda Mayberry Feller.
