On the morning of July 28,2021 , Jean Alexander turned the last page of her storybook life.  She gently left this earth with her family by her side.  Born in Falfurrias, Texas, in 1932 she developed an early interest in history of all kinds,  especially Texas history.    She graduated from the University of Texas in Austin with a degree in Sociology . She met her future husband, Neal, at a small Episcopal church near campus, at a Sunday social.  On their first date they went to see the Egyptian opera "Aida".  This began a shared love of music and attending many performances at the Houston Grand Opera.  They were married in 1954, initially living in New Jersey close to Neal's family.  She taught English and Ancient history to seventh graders for three years until the birth of her daughter, Lisa.   Neal's job transferred him to Germany for an opportunity of a lifetime. Together they embraced the culture.  She learned German and how to drive her first car.  She mastered ice skating and bicycling at age 35!  Many happy memories are recalled as a family ice skating and biking down the pathways of the Rhine on Sunday afternoons.   Her son Matthew was born in Wiesbaden.   After eight years, another job transfer moved the family to Venezuela.  Here she improved on her Spanish , learned how to live without air conditioning and a rainy season lasting six months.  Frequent trips to the only English library and seashell collecting were treasured family activities.  Four years later, her dream to move back "home" to Texas came true.   Once settled in Houston, she began to explore the surrounding community, especially Tomball.  She forged lifelong friendships with many.  She became active with the good people at the Church of the Good Shepherd and the Daughters of the King.  Her interest in history led to becoming a volunteer at the Tomball Museum, eventually becoming the Director.   For nearly 30 years she enjoyed her role in preserving local Tomball history.  The museum allowed her to introduce many adults and school children to the hard realities of early Texas life.   Described in her own words as her "labor of love".  Her legacy lives on.

She lived her life with kindness, integrity and was always concerned about the welfare of others.   She cared deeply for her friends, her family, her Church of the Good Shepherd and her beloved Tomball Museum.  One of her last spoken wishes was for "everyone to be happy".   This will be difficult but she would expect us to try.   She is preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Pansy , her brother Charles and sister Lynn.  She is survived by her son Matthew, daughter Lisa, brother Mike , nephews Richard and Pete and grandson Paul .

A memorial service to honor her life will be held on Tuesday August 10th at ten o'clock in the morning at the  Church of the Good Shepherd , 801 E.
