Jay "Dennis" Loren was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on May 2, 1934, and passed away in Cypress, Texas on April 14, 2021.

He is preceded in death by his son, Brian Ward; his parents, Jefford and Carrol Loren; and brother, Norman "Joe" Loren.

Dennis is survived by his loving wife, Betty Loren of 48 years; his children, Leanne Loren and husband Joe, Sandra Nygaard and husband Scott, Mary Dawn Lowrey and husband Paul, Scott Ward and wife Jodie.  Included in his extended and loving family are numerous grandchildren, Kelsie (Gary) Hughes, Marissa Hormann, Jocelyn (Jordan) Wekewa, Brian Lowrey, Skylar Ward, Barrett Lowrey and Kofi Boateng, Jr; great-grandchildren, Garret Hughes, Tanner Hughes and Malcolm Wekewa; Also included are numerous nieces and nephews.

In his youth, he struck out to Alaska where he worked for two summers in the wild as well as time spent on a gold dredge.  Following the Alaska stint, he enlisted in the Army and was a member of the Signal Corps.  Finally after a few years of travel and adventure in the Army, Denny attended and graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Masters in Geophysics.

His professional career brought him to Shell Oil working in the exploration division and after several years there, struck out on his own to where he formed his own consulting firm until retirement.

Outside of work, Denny enjoyed the coastal waters of Texas where he was an avid sailor and fisherman as well as owning several sailboats where weekends were spent in Kemah on the water.  Finally when it was time to retire, he moved to Matagorda Bay and became an integral part of the close-knit community of Indianola.  His love for woodworking, home repairs and friends made him a loved husband, father and friend.  Always willing to offer advice and lend a hand, he will truly be missed.

A memorial celebration for Dennis, including United States Army Honors, will be held at 2pm on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at Klein Funeral Home, 1400 W. Main, Tomball, TX 77375.
