Janice Marshall Prewitt is now in Heaven with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Janice was born on March 31, 1930 to Winfield Lee and Faye Gannon Marshall in Ashland, Kentucky. Although Janice was an only child, her house was often full of aunts, uncles, and cousins who visited from the surrounding countryside.

Janice graduated with honors from Ashland High School at age sixteen. She graduated with Honors from Ashland Junior College before attending the University of Kentucky, where she finished her Bachelor's Degree in Education at age twenty. While at U.K., Janice met the love of her life, Thomas Edward Prewitt, who became her husband of over 70 years.

Jobs were scarce in Kentucky in 1950 when Janice and Thomas graduated from the University of Kentucky. When a job opened up for Thomas with George Hormel & Co. in Austin, Minnesota, they left their home state of Kentucky to move there. Thomas was a management trainee for Hormel; Janice was an elementary teacher for Austin Public Schools.

A gifted teacher, Janice taught elementary school in Austin, Minnesota; Miami, Oklahoma; Gering, Nebraska, and Huron, South Dakota, over the course of her career. Janice easily adapted to these new school communities. She often provided anonymous funds for students who couldn't afford Boy Scout or Girl Scout uniforms.

Janice took a leave of absence from teaching in the early 1950s with the birth of their first child, Stephanie. Janice and Thomas were later blessed further with the birth of Barbara and John. Janice made her three children the top priority in her life, and she always made sure they had abundant resources for their education and spiritual growth.

In addition to teaching elementary school, Janice was a member of P.E.O. for over fifty years. She was also a Discussion Leader for Bible Study Fellowship for many years which she thoroughly enjoyed.

Janice was preceded in death by her loving husband, Thomas, in May of 2020. She is survived by her daughter, Stephanie Prewitt Brown, and her husband, Michael, of Pleasanton, Kansas; her daughter, Barbara Prewitt Myers, of Demopolis, Alabama; and her son John Marshall Prewitt, and his wife, Kelly, of Cypress, Texas. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Janice will join her late husband and be interred at Houston National Cemetery in Houston, Texas. Visitation will be at Klein Funeral Home in Champions from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on January 10, 2020, and a brief private funeral service with Pastor Doug McWhirter presiding on January 11, 2020, at Houston National Cemetery.
