Celebrating the Life of Janice Elaine Tyson Lutchman

Janice Elaine Tyson Lutchman, 77, of The Woodlands, Texas, transitioned peacefully into eternal rest on September 24, 2025. Born on December 6, 1948, in the serene town of Cayon, St. Kitts, Janice was the cherished daughter of the late Mr. Conner and the late Ruby Tyson Woodrupp.

Janice lived a life of deep faith, compassion, and unwavering love. Her journey was one marked by grace, resilience, and a radiant spirit that uplifted all who had the privilege of knowing her. She carried within her the traditions and warmth of her Caribbean heritage and combined them with a heart open to all. Her home was a place of welcome, wisdom, and warmth — whether you were family by blood or by love.

Janice devoted herself to her family. She was the cornerstone — the one who listened, guided, celebrated, and comforted. She gave freely of herself and loved deeply and widely. Her strength, both quiet and fierce, was a guiding light through both joyful and difficult times.

She is lovingly remembered and survived by a large and devoted family, each of whom carries forward her legacy of kindness and dignity:

Great-grandchildren: Marshall Gilliam, Gavin Gilliam, Henleigh Gilliam, and Trushawn Gunter
Great-granddaughters-in-law: Brittny Gilliam, Brooke Gilliam, and Jeri De Freitas
Sons-in-law: Averiest Gilliam and Leonard Jones
Brother: Alson Tyson
Nieces: Michelle Tyson, J-Shama Tyson, and Alexine Tyson
Best friend and chosen sister: Tanya Williams
Janice was preceded in death by her beloved daughter Avery Lutchman, her sister Lenore Tyson, her brother Eitel Tyson, and her loving parents.

Janice wore many hats in her lifetime — mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, friend, nurturer, confidante. To know her was to experience unconditional love. She believed in hard work, in faith, in the power of forgiveness, and in always setting an extra place at the table — because she loved to cook. Her words carried wisdom and a lot of fire, and her presence brought peace.

She loved deeply and was deeply loved in return.
Her hands created comfort — whether through meals made with love, a gentle touch in difficult moments, or the firm but fair lessons that shaped generations.

Her legacy is not only in those she leaves behind, but in the kindness she sowed, the traditions she passed down, and the love she wove into the fabric of her family.

There will be no formal service; instead, friends and family are invited to come together to share memories, give thanks for a life beautifully lived, and offer love and support to one another. A private cremation will follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Janice's memory to a charitable organization of your choice — especially those that support families, local women's shelters, Hanger Clinic: Prosthetics and Orthotics (The Woodlands, Texas), or education — causes she believed in deeply.

Though she may no longer walk among us, Janice Elaine Tyson Lutchman lives on in every life she touched, every lesson she taught, and every embrace she gave. We mourn her loss, but we celebrate her legacy — a legacy that reminds us that love is eternal, and family is forever.
