Janet G. Massengale was born on June 9, 1934, in Roy, New Mexico, to B.P. and Claudia Gambrel. She passed away on May 29, 2020.

Being born not only during the Great Depression era, but also in the middle of the Dust Bowl storms, this helped shape her into the strong woman she lived to be. Janet lived a long and happy 85 years. She was strong in her faith and enjoyed going to her church, First Baptist Church of Tomball. She cared for her family. This was most important to her. Janet was an incredible wife, mother, Nanny, and Lala.

She is survived by her children, Bart Massengale and wife, Mimi, Bret Massengale and wife, Darlene, and Jennifer Hassell and husband, Sonny; her grandchildren, Shanell Gambrel and fiancé, Mike Harrison, Janet Lynne Thorp, Heather and Matt Ytuarte, Tyler Clark and fiancé, Lauren Bullock, Ryan Massengale and fiancé, Brittany Van Cleave, Penni Reeds and Ryan Wilcoxson, Paige Reeds, Kristy and Chris Shugart, Kasey Yates, Candace Hassell Gore and husband, Tracey, and James Caleb Hassell. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Kiley and James Groover, Andrew and Adrianna Ytuarte, Brantley Clark, Levi Wilcoxson, Greyson Massengale, Kailyn and Tristin Shugart, Alyssa and Hayden Gerngross, and Olivia Gore; and her two brothers, Russell and Wayne Gambrel.

Janet was preceded in death by her husband, Elard A. Massengale; her parents, Claudia and Beverly P. Gambrel; her siblings, Robert Gambrel, Elizabeth G. Moses, and Steven Gambrel; her son, James "Jimmy" Gambrel; her son-in-law, Butch Reeds; her grandson, Joshua; and her beloved best friends of many decades, Verla Roy and Danny Carter.

For many years, Janet worked at Cameron Ironworks. She also worked as a telephone operator at Rosewood Hospital and Spring Branch Hospital. Janet enjoyed traveling with some of her closest friends. She enjoyed visiting New Mexico, New York City, Washington D.C., Branson, Missouri, Las Vegas, Florida, and many other places. Janet shared many wonderful memories of many decades with her dearest friend, Sami Thompson. In her later years, Janet met many wonderful friends at Home Towne in Tomball, TX. Janet enjoyed going to the movies and shopping with her friends, Yvonne and Jackie. Lois would always help Janet with anything she needed done in her apartment home. She also enjoyed visiting with everyone else down in the Hat Room of the apartment complex. Barbara and all of the ladies in her Sunday School class loved to get together. Those that know Janet, know that her smile and laughter would light up any room she walked into. Her laugh is something that her loved ones will miss the most. Janet had a great sense of humor and rarely got angry with anyone. She loved to have fun.

The family will receive family and friends during at visitation at Klein Funeral Home - Tomball, 1400 W. Main, Tomball, TX 77375, on Monday, June 1, 2020, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 2, 2020 at 2:00 PM in the funeal home chapel. The funeral home requires attendees to wear a face mask and practice social distancing in light of recent events.
